Latin Thug - 4 Life Navy - T-Shirt

If you have every seen High School Musical then you most certainly know the name Ashley Tisdale. Ashley Tisdale plays the popular character Sharpay Evans who is one girl who always seems to want what she can't have. Born on July 2, 1985, she grew up knowing that she wanted to be an actress and a singer. Her first "big break" was when Ashley Tisdale was only three years old. Discovered by Bill Perlman, she started doing commercials which led her to star on Broadway in Les Miserables and later in the international tour of Annie.

Ashley Tisdale has known nothing but acting and singing and even sang at the white house when she was only 12 years old. It was that year that she started to make her way onto television where she had small parts on some popular television shows. It was in 2005 that Ashley Tisdale got her big break when she signed onto to the show "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" which is a hugely popular Disney show. Disney knew they had someone special on their hands and immediately went about casting her for High School Musical. Of course the movie was a huge success and catapulted Ashley Tisdale, along with the rest of the cast, into instant stardom.

Acting wasn't enough for Ashley Tisdale though, and she decided that after her songs from High School Musical did so well on the charts that she was going to put out her own debut album. On February of 2007, "Headstrong" her first album debuted.

Currently she is involved in the making of High School Musical 3 Ringtones but has many more plans for the future after High School Musical 3 is completed. Ashley Tisdale wants to concentrate on her music as well and hopes to come out with a second album sometime in the near future.

Jeff Simms runs a High School Musical 3 Ringtones website and a blog dedicated to HSM 3.

Over the years, the hymn Ave Maria has been set to music numerous times. The most famous of those was composed by Franz Schubert. Today, this piece of music is loved and well known around the universe for its simplicity and ability to move practically anyone who hears it. Even when performed only as an instrumental, the song still has a tremendous emotional pull. The piece was composed around 1825 when Schubert was only 28 years old.

Although many people are not aware of it, the words to the hymn were originally written by Walter Scott for his "Lady of the Lake." The narrative poem was originally published by Scott in 1810, with the words describing the struggle that occurs between a number of Scottish Highland clans during the 16th century. Although the account in the poem is fictional, some of the clans purported their loyalty to King James V while others had loyalties elsewhere. The young heroine of the poem is Ellen Douglas. Eventually, she finds herself forced to hide in the depths of a mountain cave along with her father as they seek to escape the wrath of the king. It is while she is in hiding that she begins to sing a song. The song, "Hymn to the Virgin", is a prayer to the Virgin Mary for comfort and help. Her song, the hymn within the poem, forms the basis for the much beloved song we now know so well, Ave Maria.

"The Lady of the Lake" was translated into German in 1819 by Philip Adam Storck. It was his translation that would eventually serve as the basis for the book of songs by Schubert which was written in 1825. In Schubert's book, Ave Maria.

is referred to as "Ellens Dritter Gesang", which translates as "Ellen's Third Song." One year later, a separate edition of the same songs were to both the original English words as well as German words.

It has been said that this piece was performed for the first time in a small Austrian town at a castle belonging to Countess Sophie Weissenwolff. According to reports, the song was dedicated to her and eventually she was frequently known as the lady of the lake.

Today, Ave Maria is still one of the most popular songs in all of the world, especially among hymns. At times, the song is sung to words that are not the same as those of Scott, Storck or Schubert. In some cases, the song is performed solely in instrumental versions and not words are used.

The opening words of the song as well as the refrain are believed to have inspired the adaptation of the melody as the setting for the complete body of the traditional Catholic prayer Ave Maria. As a result, the Latin version of the song is used on such a frequent basis today, along with Schubert's melody, that a misconception has arisen that Schubert might have originally written the melody specifically to serve as a setting for the prayer.

A new SonyBMG signing, The Priests, will be including Ave Maria in their new album of classical hymns. The hymn will be produced in four different languages by the trio including Spanish, Latin, English, Italian and German. The album will be produced by Mike Hedges and will be a unique take on several traditional hymns inspired by the church.

Internet radio is booming, providing a way for listeners to enjoy just about any genre of music that strikes their fancy or matches their personal tastes. Internet radio would seem to be especially well suited for the high-tech beats associated with today's club and rave scenes.

Indeed, club (or dance) audio streams can be found in abundance on the Web. One of the best sites for sampling and enjoying this "trance-out" music in all its manifestations is Ombilikal.org, home of Ombilikal Radio. Ombilikal Radio broadcasts a steady stream of drum 'n' bass, jungle, electro (or electronica), breakbeat, hip hop, dub, ragga, roots, nujazz and downtempo music.

I'm familiar with some of these genres and subgenres, but others leave me scratching my head. As I definitely need to bring myself up to speed on what's trendy in the clubs these days, I can't think of a better way to do that than listening to Ombilikal.

The Ombilikal Web site has an appropriate industrial look to it. It also offers more than just streaming radio. There are forum areas, news and review sections, an events calendar and more--all of it oriented to club-type music.

One drawback to the Ombilikal Web site--at least for us English speakers--is the fact that its native language is French. Its creators have thoughtfully provided instant-translation buttons so non-French speakers can re-render its pages in English, Spanish, German or Italian. The results, though, are pretty rough. For example, here is the "English" version of an announcement of an upcoming event:

Indeed, has the invitation of the Festival Osheaga, Montreal Eclectique Groove takes possession of a scene external in full heart of the Park Jean Drapeau. Beginning of the afternoon until the tombee of the night, within a framework favourable with the relaxation - between lakes and success of greenery - this go from now on impossible to circumvent invites each one has a weekend rich in musical discoveries.

Oh, well, the main draw of Ombilikal is the audio stream, and for that you don't really need a translation--especially when you can sit or lie back and just let yourself trance out to the insistent electronic beat.

Stefan Smith is a radio and music junkie who writes on these and other subjects for the Solid Gold Info Writers Consortium. Recently, he has written an extensive review of new software that anyone can use to capture music audio streams from Internet radio broadcasts and break them up into individual mp3 song files--a legal way to download virtually free music. Learning and putting into practice Spanish slang can be pretty difficult and somewhat demanding. In order to successfully master the number of slang terms, you need some time to seriously study them. If you are thinking that is all you have to do, you are wrong. It does not simply stop there. Keep in mind that you also have to put them into practice, so it will be more difficult to forget what the terms mean.

A very effective way of learning slang is through someone who actually knows that kind of language. It is in fact the best method that you can apply. It is like getting the information directly from the source. To do this, you must know at least one native speaker. If you do no know anybody, then you better start making new friends. Make sure that the person you are going to get acquainted with knows and speaks the type of slang that you want to learn. Remember that there are various types of slang terms. If you are interested with slang terms from Latin America, you must look for someone who speaks Latin America's tongue.

You can also improve your chances of mastering slang if you have a number of listening materials where Spanish slang is used. The best examples are TV and radio shows in Spanish. Spanish slang and phrases as well as idiomatic expressions are very common in different Spanish TV programs. Watching and listening to these can be a good practice. Tuning in to local Spanish radio stations is another way since Spanish DJs typically make use of slang terms.

Once you have done those, try putting into practice what you have just learned. You can ask a friend the favor of talking to you using slang. That way, all your efforts studying the matter will not be put to waste.

At first thought, you might say that spending time learning these slang terms are not worth your while. But if you are a traveler and presently making plans about going to Spanish speaking countries, there are some things you should really consider. Getting caught up in a foreign land where you do not know most of the people could be pretty frightening, especially if you start hearing them talking in a manner you do not understand. Of course, nobody wants to be treated strangely as if he came from outer space principally because of language barrier.

Live 2003

The guitar is a very popular instrument. It is a stringed instrument with frets and is used commonly for rhythms and melody lines simply by plucking or the strum of the strings. This is a very old instrument and is very common in modern music. Everybody seems to have their own personal preference for the guitar. Some like acoustic, others like electric, and even others like synthesized.

Listening to guitar music is really relaxing. However, for others, playing it is the best. Playing the guitar may seem difficult to many. For beginners in music, learning any instrument can seem like a very hard task to complete that takes hours. There are, however, lots of available resources out there that can show you how to play the guitar through tutorials and such. It is really pretty easy to do nowadays.

One of the easiest ways to start playing the guitar is to learn how to read guitar tabs. These are basically tabs of guitar strings with numbers telling you which fret to hold down on that string. A different fret makes a different pitch for the string. These tabs are really easy to read and not hard to learn at all.

As with everything, tabs do have their drawbacks. One of the main drawbacks is that you are not reading music in a musical theory sort of way. You're learning the guitar notes through numbers and frets instead of notes. The best way to learn the guitar is through the real staff music notation. This way you can transfer your knowledge of notes and music to any other western instrument.

Playing with tab music at first start, however, is the fastest way. All you need to do is read the tabs and you can start playing the guitar. It's the quick way to start playing music. However, you probably won't have any idea what you're playing other than the way it sounds.

Pierce Rainer has a free 5 day e-course that teaches you to learn how to play the guitar.

Linear Style Salsa originated in America, and was mainly developed for the purpose of performing on stage. In Linear style, dancers stay aligned to the same line which makes it easier for viewers to watch. Linear Style is now fast gaining popularity around the world, with two main styles: LA Style and NY Style from Los Angeles and New York respectively.

Music:

Linear Style Salsa has exactly the same music as Cuban Salsa. The music is played in 4/4 with beats 4 and 8 representing a pause and the other beats representing steps. Claves, Congo or the tin drum are often used to mark the main beats of the music. The music is quite similar to Mambo.

Dance:

Linear Style Salsa has a 4/4 rythm. Unlike Cuban style of Salsa, Linear Style does not have a pause on the 4th and 8th beats. Instead, Linear style offers a "quick, quick, slow" stepping with the slow step taking up two beats of timing. Both dancers dance in a straight line, with most moves ending up with dancers swapping sides while still aligned to the same line. Linear Style salsa also features a lot of moves where the leaders "comb" themslves, or the followers.

Latinos NZ Popularity Scale: 6/10

Linear Style Salsa is fast gaining popularity in New Zealand. Having said that, most "salsers" in a Latin Club follow the Cuban style of dancing and the Linear Style is saved for performing on stage.

Get a bit of variation in your Salsa moves with LA and NY styles!

Sweatshirt Black " Latin Rap Notes " Music

This is a great sweatshirt. Great gift. All TopExpressions products are made under strict quality controls. 100% cotton, weight aprox 25oz.

i.e. vs. e.g.

Use i.e. , to re-name, restate, or to clarify, as in, "He fell out of the window, i.e., down." This is an abbreviated Latin term (id est) that roughly translates as, "which is to say..." or "meaning..."

Use e.g., to provide examples, as in, "He liked falling from heights, e.g., out of windows, from airplanes, off of ladders." This is an abbreviated Latin term (exempli gratia) that translates as "For example..."

[And don't forget the comma after either one.]

Data is plural

Example: "The data are complete; we conclude that falling is dangerous." [We hear data used as a singular noun so often that the mistake seems right, but it isn't.]

Like vs. Such as

Use like to show similarities, as in, "He was falling like a rotten tomato that missed the stage."

Use such as to provide examples, as in, "Everything falls at times, such as tomatoes and bodies from windows." [Not: "Everything falls at times, like tomatoes and bodies from windows." Another correct way to say this is "Everything falls at times, e.g., tomatoes and bodies from windows."]

Everyone is singular

Example: "Everyone needs to jump out of his window." [Not: "Everyone needs to jump out of their window." You could use "his or her" to be politically correct.]

Comprise vs. Compose

Comprise means to gather multiple parts into a single whole. A good synonym is assemble. For example, "The band comprised [assembled] many different players." [Not: "The band was comprised of many different players."] Here, you have a whole and are describing its parts.

Compose means to make a whole by putting together multiple parts. A good synonym is create. For example, "The band was composed [created] of many different players." Here, you have the parts and are showing how they are put together to make a whole.

The difference is subtle, but what you need to consider is whether you are emphasizing the whole (the band) or the parts (the members of the band).

Staff is not a person

Use staff to refer to the entire group of employees and colleagues, and it is singular (the plural is staffs). A good synonym is team. For example: "The staff [team] is upset with the pay raise."

Use staff person or staff member to refer to an individual person on the staff. So, you would write, "Six staff members are not coming to work today." This refers to the individual people. If you want to refer to the entire staff at once, you would write, "The staff is not coming to work today."

ASIA Latin Quartier 23rd November 1989 Music Poster

Origin:

Merengue originated in the Dominican Republic. It is the national dance of the Dominican. There are a few stories describing how the dance originated. The most common one is that of the slaves who were chained together and had to move by dragging one foot at a time. Merengue as a two beat music and since the footwork is quite similar to walking, it is a very easy dance to learn.

Music:

Merengue is played in 2/4. The double sided drum is played on one side with a stick with a strong syncopation to mark the beats. Saxophones and guitars are also very popular instruments found in the music.

Dance:

Merengue footwork is extremely easy to learn as it's a simple two beat movement ("left, right") with the body weight being moved between the legs. The upper body stays fairly straight while the hips move with the weight change. The Merengue frame is much smaller (closer) in comparison to Salsa. Having said that, Merengue is often led with a single (right) hand on the back. But in open hold, arms are often completely extended out instead of maintaining a closer L-shaped frame.

Latinos NZ Popularity Scale: 8.5/10

Meregue is a very popular Latin American Dance in New Zealand, second only to Salsa. On an average night out in a Latin Club, as many as every second or third song can be Merengue.

Many have joined the crowd to download unlimited music for their MP3 players. Compact disc (CD) sales have declined by more than 19% since the onset of 2001 while online music sales are climbing to new highs each year. According to a report from the International Federation of Phonographic Industry, the revenues for digital music sales have tripled to hit above the $1 billion mark in 2005. This situation is not about to change anytime, with iTunes accounting for over 85% of song downloads in the same year. It was also then that online music sales accounted for an estimated 6% of all record company sales. You are on the right track if you too want to download unlimited music online.

Well, for anyone to download unlimited music seems easy but it is not if you dont have any inkling of what to look out for in an excellent and honest download site. There are things you should be assessing to screen out the good ones. There are many scam sites that masquerade as legitimate download sites. In fact, some even offer online music for free. What they do is offer you a download client which is a package of malware that constantly flashes advertisements of their sponsors before your face. Not only is that annoying, you could be exposing your computer to unnecessary risk of adware, spyware and virus attacks.

Here are some handy tips to find a good music download site where you can download unlimited music.

1. Selection of Music Genre

Make sure that this site allows you to download unlimited music of your favourite genre. You can contact the site and find out if they offer the music of your choice. Alternatively, if you are the lazy kind like most of us, simply pick one which has a wide selection.

2. Check the Terms and Conditions

Browse through the terms and conditions to make sure you can download unlimited music legally. Read through and see if there is any abnormality.

3. Download Speed

Downloading speed determines whether a site is well-established. Good sites maintain their websites well, and ensure that they can support high downloading speeds even when thousands to millions of users are downloading music simultaneously from different parts of the world. A site that is often overloaded speaks of how low their server resources are. If it is not willing to invest in excellent service quality, flee from it.

4. Customer Feedback

Positive customer feedback is a good indicator of the health of the website. It also suggests professionalism and satisfaction guarantee.

5. Payment or Charges

There are download sites that offer monthly subscription for their service, and others that offer a flat fee for yearly, two-year or lifetime membership. Take your pick but if I were you, the choice is obvious.

6. Music or Song Download Limit

Download sites that put a limit to the number of music download used to be common. Nowadays, there are several membership sites that give you access to download unlimited music once you purchase their memberships. There is absolutely no limit.

7. Safe Downloading Environment

Be sure to stick with a site where you really can download unlimited music safely. There are horrid stories about how some poor folks got their data wiped out by viruses when they download music at certain sites.

As you can see, finding a choice music site to download unlimited music requires some careful selection. Follow these tips and you should be able to zoom in on an excellent place to build your online music collection. Customer Review: My boys love this book.
This is a wonderful book of popular songs in Spanish, which my triplet boys latched onto immediately. The songs are very engaging, and each page has lovely artwork. I speak Spanish, and my boys were born in Spain. I have been trying very hard to help them maintain a little Spanish, and this book has been very helpful. It doesn't come with a CD, but you can easily learn the tunes of the songs if you know how to read music. And even if you only speak rudimentary Spanish, I think it's possible to learn the songs and enjoy them. This book quickly became the boys' favorite bedtime routine. I hear them singing the songs during the day as well. I highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Great book
I love the colorful pictures in this book and that it has music to all of the songs. It is a wonderful book and my baby loves when I sing to him!

A soundman can make or break your act at any live gigs that your band is playing. With a good engineer your band will sound polished with a great even mix of instruments and vocals. A bad engineer on the other hand, can make even a great band sound horrible. A harsh mix with blazing guitars and low vocal levels can leave your audience thinking that your band stinks. All of those countless hours of writing your songs and rehearsing get rudely flushed in the toilet!

Finding a Good Engineer

Check with other bands in your area and ask who they use to run their sound. Go out and listen to those engineers and ask yourself some questions about what you are hearing. Are all of the instruments an even level in the mix? Can you hear the lead vocals? How about the backup vocals? Are mics feeding back while the band is performing? How does the engineer use reverb and effects? Are they being overused? Is the engineer paying attention to the band pushing up lead guitar levels when appropriate? If the engineer doesn't do these things properly for other bands, most definitely he will mix and treat your band the exact same way. Another way to find a good engineer is to call recording studios in your hometown. They may have an recording engineer that also does live sound. Thirdly is to check your local music magazines for soundmen that are advertising for work.

Do They Have The Gear?

Check if the engineer you are thinking of hiring has the proper gear for the types of shows that you plan on playing with your band. Does he need a full blown PA set up or does he just need a good board, small fronts, monitors, effects and power amps? Know what you want before going into the deal. If the engineer doesn't own a PA ask if he has a working relationship with a sound company that he can rent the needed gear from. If they don't have any connections you may be overpaying for PA rental.

Are They Reliable?

The best soundman in the world won't do you any good if they are not on time and be where they need to be. I have had many dealings with great soundmen that just didn't have their act together.

Hiring a soundman should be a careful decision. Take your time and check all of your options before you make any decisions. Remember you are in control of your own destiny when it comes to your musical career.

THIS IS THE MODERN WORLD: Videos By Radiohead / Pink Floyd / Coldplay / Liz Phair / Starsailor / and More.

You can tell summer has arrived here in France because the signs are all around us.

First up there are the obvious ones - such as the weather and the dress code. Of course the latter, especially in the nation's capital, can still turn into something of a catwalk as this year's chic hits the streets big time in what for many is the Mecca of the fashion world.

Then there are the music festivals, concerts, outdoor productions, and jumble sales held up and down the country and let's not forget the smell of a BBQ wafting in from the neighbour's garden.

Prime time television news reports begin focusing on the queues at airports and the number of passengers passing through the French capital's major railway stations, rather than hard news. And national newspapers go in for the inevitable silly season.

The inside lanes of the motorways are bumper-to-bumper full of Dutch cars, trailers and caravans, busting at the seams with provisions for a month.

In August of course, when (hopefully) summer will be in full swing a huge chunk of the country will all but close down for a month and Paris will put up shop almost completely as the French head south literally and metaphorically with "Aoutien" holidaymakers replacing "Juilletistes".

But the real clue that the whole shebang is underway has to be the reappearance on the small screen of Secret Story.

It reared its less than attractive head on Friday evening on the country's number one national channel, TF1, and is set to be in everyone's sitting rooms for the next 10 weeks.

In essence it's France's answer to Big Brother - only more downmarket. Impossible you might think, but sadly true.

Basically the idea is very simple. It starts with 15 people, strangers to each other - with the odd exception, as will become clearer later on - moving into a built-for-TV house, where they'll be under the watchful eye of the production team and the viewing public 24/7 (via the Internet of course) for two and a half months.

Each carries with them into the house a "secret" - and the idea is to keep it hidden from the others for as long as possible while trying to cajole out of fellow house mates exactly what they're trying to keep under wraps.

Off camera there is also the deep bass booming tones of The Voice (La Voix), dropping hints whenever he feels like it, setting playful if somewhat idiotic tasks with cash rewards should they be completed successfully without anyone else in the house realising.

Every week two candidates are nominated and television viewers get to vote in a 'phone poll (at premium rates of course) on who should stay in. Original stuff huh?

Yes the country which so often likes to think that it has taken the cultural highroad, brought the world classics in the fields of literature, art and music, prides itself on its language and traditions, cuisine, fine wines and haute couture - now proves once again that it can mix it with the best and worst of what the world of reality TV has to offer.

The new series, which kicked off on Friday evening will have a hard act to follow.

Last summer, when TF1 first ran the programme, the eventual winner quickly had her secret revealed .She was a triplet - and after the other house members wheedled it out of her, in tramped her two sisters.

Thus the three of them provided viewers with hours of entertainment as they played cards, ate, played cards and slept, eventually being crowned the winners because.... well because they were pretty inoffensive and bland.

Up against them was the nudist, the escort boy, the son of a famous French tennis player (Henri Leconte) a transsexual and an obnoxious couple (their secret) who bickered and manipulated their way to the final, earning their Warhol moment of fame and then (thankfully) disappearing into oblivion.

This year's dollop of dubious "culture" kicked off with the contestants tastefully arriving at the house one by one in his and hers blue and pink limos. Each woman seemingly more buxom than the last, many of them sporting micro dresses of which even pop diva Mariah Carey would have been envious.

And with a few exceptions each man was more muscled, more coiffed and more drop-dead gorgeous than the last, preening and pouting as though they were models in Milan.

Separately they tottered, strutted, swaggered or tripped their way through the jeering and cheering masses into 10-weeks-worth (for the eventual winner) of fleeting public notoriety and a stab at the chance of picking up a 150,000 cheque at the end.

Some of the contestants have had their secrets revealed to the public already - such as the lesbian couple from Belgium, the black mother and white daughter or the 30-something hunk and teenage siren who have to pretend to be "a couple". But none of the other housemates (apart from those "in" on their own coupled secrets) is any the wiser yet.

Nor do any of the contestants know exactly what secrets they have to find out, although once again viewers have been told that among the 15 there is an Anglican minister (male of female not revealed), an undertaker, a medium (who you would think might just have a head start on the others and know whether he or she would end up winning), a prince or princess and a Don Juan with apparently more than 750 "conquests" under his belt already.

So as the 15 pretenders to the title of French telly's newest reality TV hero or heroine are busy settling in to their 24/7 life together transmitted live on the Net and daily on the small screen, we can probably expect some tasteless antics similar to last year's offering - such as the rump steak shoved down the underpants of one male contestant.

There'll also doubtless be the same sort of petty rivalries, squabbles and handbags-at-dawn stuff that characterised much of the first series.

But breathe a sigh of relief because at least it's all being done in the name of entertainment. And as much as some might question why and find it "outrageous", there'll probably still be millions tuning in.

Let's also not forget there's always the "off" button on the TV set or alternative viewing on other channels.

As compulsive and trashy as Secret Story might be it'll still more than likely pull in the viewers and become its own story in itself as the nation tut-tuts and hisses in disapproval and indignation at the antics of the previous night's revelations.

Oh well. In the indomitable words of La Voix "C'est tout pour le moment."

Encanto

Brazilian music legend Sergio Mendes spins his remarkable magic on his newest recording, a bona fide classic! This is a kaleidoscopic album that underscores the maestro's ear for addictive melodies, as well as his ability to cast incredibly talented singers and musicians from all over the world
Customer Review: a review for Brasil '66 fans
It's been around 40 years since Mendes reached an artistic and commercial peak with several classic albums that successfully mixed bossa nova, jazz, and pop music. Those albums still sound fresh today, thanks to the terrific songs, latin rhythms and some sparkling arrangements. Since then, Mendes has experimented with mixing his Brazilian sound with folk rock, funk, dance music, hip hop, and on "Encanto," some r&b. As someone who prefers the work he did with Brasil '66 to anything more recent, to my ears the album is pleasant though generally forgettable with the exception of a few wonderful tracks. Unsurprisingly the best tracks are those with strong melodies by Antonio Carlos Jobim, in particular "Somewhere in the Hills" and "Dreamer," both of which are direct descendants of the sound of Brasil '66. "Dreamer" includes both Herb Alpert and Lani Hall, who sounds remarkably like she did when she was fronting Brasil '66. This is a genuinely stunning track and easily the best on the album. Natalie Cole sings "Somewhere in the Hills" which is appropriately jazzy and is one of Jobim's strongest melodies. Other Jobim tracks include "Waters of March" which Mendes has covered several times in the past. It's a singer's song, and sounds a little rhythmically stiff here, as it has in his previous efforts. "Morning in Rio" is also good, with a more Brazilian styled melody and a nice trombone solo. The rest of the CD is listenable, but not such that I ever want to hear most of it again. "The Look of Love" is an unnecessary remake of a good song. What made the original great was a sensational big band arrangement which has been dropped in favor of a hip hop arrangement. I liked the Brazilian styled funk of "Odo-ya" and the mellow "Catavento" with Mendes' wife on lead vocals. On the other hand, "Funky Bahia" and "Lugar Comum," the latter of which features an Italian rapper doing a little snippet of "Volare," are disposable pop/hip hop songs. If I could get into Mendes' head, I would try to convince him do an album of Jobim and Marcos Valle songs with Herb Alpert and Lani Hall and a small jazz/bossa combo. It might not sell a million copies, but it would be an artistic triumph. If you're an unreconstructed fan of Brasil '66 as I am, I can recommend this with reservations. You might be better off just downloading a handful of tracks. But "Dreamer" should not be missed.
Customer Review: Summery and enchanting.
"Encanto" follows the highly acclaimed 2006 collaboration with will.i.am Timeless and with this latest release, Sergio takes us even deeper into Brazil, having recorded all the basic tracks in Rio and Bahia and finally finishing up in in California, where the studio band included Alphonso Johnson. For "Encanto" (in Spanish for Enchantment), Mendes has also enlisted the formidable and enchantingly diverse talents of an array of guest musicians who hail from the world over. Latin superstar Juanes from Colombia and multi-talented Carlinhos Brown & Vanessa da Mata from Brazil jostle alongside the foremost Japanese pop group Dreams Come True, Belgium's Zap Mama and Italian rapper Jovanotti. This international cast is completed by the American stars Fergie, Siedah Garrett and Herb Alpert who is accompanied by his wife, original Brasil '66 singer, Lani Hall. Old smoothie Mendes gets jiggy on a selection of bossa-favourites with a raft of guest stars including the ubiquitous Will.i.am and Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas, Natalie Cole and Herb Alpert et all... This new album essentially is a cross between Mendes' soft, salsa-tinged melodies and modern day R'n'B. The opening track, "The Look of Love" with rap/vocals by Fergie, is a deliciously moreish funky-fusion, and for the first third or so, the combination of Sergio's Rhodes with the hip-hopped production style is terrific. Perhaps this new version of Burt Bacharach's "The Look Of Love", which Mendes had originally transposed to bossa nova heaven in 1967 is the boldest track on "Encanto". This new interpretation, produced by Black Eyed Peas will.i.am, preserves the alluring melody of the original while bringing the song into the new millennium with crisp drum programming and a sexy rap by Fergie. Then it goes all smooth jazz on you. Not bad, though. Whether you are a Sergio Mendes fan especially the earlier stuff, Brasil 66, Equinox, etc or a Black Eyed Peas fan, or indeed R&B then there's something on this album to please everyone. I'd say for such a challenging album there are only a couple of songs that are just to heavy hip hop for me. The rest is a joy to listen to, if you are open minded about remixes and love to see what Sergio has been up to. This album is a grower. The more I listen to it, the better it gets. You will like it. Picks of the album: "The Look of Love", "Waters Of March", "Dreamer", and "Somewhere In The Hills (O Morro Nao Tem Vez)". Basically, the difference between free file-sharing programs and file-sharing programs that you pay for is as follows. With the pay programs such as Mp3 Advance, MP3 Music Subscription and DownloadShield, you get technical support, no pop ups, no adware or spyware, most offer privacy protection, and your money back if you're not happy with the program. With the totally free music download programs, unless you buy their Pro version, which some of them are more expensive than the pay programs mentioned above, you're pretty much on your own along with the ads and pop ups and don't forget the spyware. It's your choice.
