Bursting with color and spirit, this collection of Latin-American songs is a tribute to Latino culture. From traditional tunes to rhymes and hand games, De Colores has songs for all occasions and moods. Each song is accompanied by simple musical arrangements, with lyrics in both English and Spanish. Slightly abridged from the original edition, this is ideal for classroom use, multicultural studies, or just plain fun.

Customer Review: My boys love this book.
This is a wonderful book of popular songs in Spanish, which my triplet boys latched onto immediately. The songs are very engaging, and each page has lovely artwork. I speak Spanish, and my boys were born in Spain. I have been trying very hard to help them maintain a little Spanish, and this book has been very helpful. It doesn't come with a CD, but you can easily learn the tunes of the songs if you know how to read music. And even if you only speak rudimentary Spanish, I think it's possible to learn the songs and enjoy them. This book quickly became the boys' favorite bedtime routine. I hear them singing the songs during the day as well. I highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Great book
I love the colorful pictures in this book and that it has music to all of the songs. It is a wonderful book and my baby loves when I sing to him!

My Name is Celia/Me llamo Celia (Bilingual): The Life of Celia Cruz/la vida de Celia Cruz (Americas Award for Children's and Young Adult Literature. Winner (Awards))

This bilingual book allows young readers to enter Celia Cruz's life as she becomes a well-known singer in her homeland of Cuba, then moves to New York City and Miami where she and others create a new type of music called salsa.
Customer Review: Queen of Salsa
Celia Cruz is brought to life for young children in this colorful book. Like the tropics from which she came, the book is full of vibrant illustrations. The story is put into simple terms for young readers or a teacher or parent to read. Since the illustrations are so vibrant and bold children will be enthralled by the unique features of the art work. Each biographical page is bilingual for reading in Spanish or English or both. The book describes her early family life in Cuba, her departure after the revolution, her musical group Sonora Mantacera, meeting her musician husband, her associations with other salsa greats like Tito Puente and Willie Colon, her relocation to Miami and the various honors and recognitions she achieved. This is a great little book for primary and middle school libraries as well as community libraries. Students whoose first language is Spanish can benefit from the bilingual book through middle school years. This is a fun book.
Customer Review: Wonderful!
My Name is Celia: The Life of Celia Cruz is written by Monica Brown and illustrated by Rafael Lopez. The book is the recipient of a Pura Belpre' Illustrator Honor Award for outstanding work that portrays, affirms and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth. The exciting and inspirational life of beloved Cuban-born salsa queen, Celia Cruz, is celebrated in the bilingual book My Name is Celia Me Llamo Celia: The Life of Celia Cruz. Celia was born in Havana to a large family where their lives were intertwined and music was an important part of everyday life. Celia's papa wanted her to become a teacher but music filled her soul with happiness. She was encouraged by a teacher to "go out into the world and sing...." Celia experienced prejudice and fled her beloved country Cuba when the revolution began. From Cuba, Celia traveled the world sharing her love of music with the world. Rafael Lopez' illustrations are vibrant, fluid combinations of color that beg to be studied. The scenes fill the page and stir emotions as you read the story and live it through his drawings. Armchair Interviews says: My Name is Celia: The Life of Celia Cruz is a beautiful and educational addition to any child's library. We highly recommend it.

If you have dreams of performing in the Winchester theatre royal, you have to consider that acting classes aren't cheap, and sometimes you even have to pay a hefty sum for being in a showcase, without any guarantee of getting an agent. Make sure you have enough money set aside for your acting needs.

Dance classes can also be additional training, though acting is what you will need most. Audition for school plays and community theatre for the experience!

I think they both have their merits, and they're both just so extraordinarily different with entirely different energies. For people who have never done theater, it's a difficult thing, because you have to be focused for an hour-and-a-half to two hours, whereas in film, if you shoot more than a page-and-a-half all at once, that's a pretty long scene. Then again, some people just learn things differently than others. Use whatever method best serves you.

By contrast, when you project a facade that differs from what you think and who you really are inside, others sense the disparity. When your speaking and who you are being don't match, it keeps you from being heard and decreases your personal effectiveness. It's time to imagine a different world. When doing a scene, if I say I'm at a restaurant, every single audience member could have a different image of where that scene takes place. One person might think fast food while another thinks fine dining.

For those looking for a job in acting, finding a talent agent is important. But, technology gives us a chance to create what we want instead of waiting for a call. Many people have found agents after they got their first gig. If a casting director really likes you and thinks you have the right look they will call you in for an audition. Actors, for instance, audition with directors and casting agents, hoping to show that they can play the role for which they're auditioning. Musicians hand out tapes and CDs of their music to convince nightclub and theater owners to book them for gigs.

The Winchester theatre royal and Army museums two fantastic sites to visit.

LP RhythMix 7" Tambourine on Handle, with Note Name Cut-Outs

In this piano lesson you will learn to read easy piano tab notation. You will also learn to play an easy piano melody with the help of tabs. We will use the popular song Yesterday as an example.

To really learn to read piano sheet music is a goal worth striving for. It will open a world of music waiting to be played by your fingers. However, it will take some time to really master the art of reading sheet music.

Piano tabs are tools that can help you learn melodies fast. They are not a complete substitute for sheet music notation but can be an easy way to learn easy melodies as you develop your sight reading skills.

There is an established system for reading and writing piano tab notation. In this system you will have to learn the names of the white keys on your piano. The first note to find is middle c. This note is located at the middle of a piano keyboard. If you take a closer look at the black keys you will find that they are organized in groups of two or three keys.

The middle c is located immediately to the left of a group of two black keys in the middle of your keyboard. It is sometimes called c4 as it is in the fourth octave of an ordinary piano. On a keyboard with a less number of keys the key at the middle of the keyboard will still be called c4.

What is an octave?

If you start with the note c and play the notes to the right of c you will play a c-major scale. The notes are c d e f g a b. The note that comes after b is the next c. As you can see the next c has the same position to the left of two black keys as the middle c. This c is sometimes called c5 because it is in the fifth octave of a piano or grand.

The notes you play from c to the next c is called an octave. Octave means eight and you have played eight notes when you play from c to the next c. This interval is repeated all over the keyboard. c3 is the c to the left of middle c and so on.

The piano tab notation we will use in this article is a simplified form of the piano tabs used on the Internet. Here are the rules:

1. The white keys we will use are notated with lowercase letters. That is, c d e f g a and b.

2. The octave in which you are to play the notes are indicated with a number. c4 means middle c. If the following notes are in the same octave there will not be any numbers after the notes until you change octave.

3. If you are to play a black key it is indicated with an uppercase letter. C means the black key immediately to the right of c. In ordinary sheet music notation this note is written C#.

Now it is time to try to play the first notes of Yesterday by Beatles with the help of our simple piano tab notation. I will show you the first line of lyrics and below the corresponding melody written with piano tabs.

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away

d4 c c e F G a b c5 b4 a a

Now it looks as though they're here to stay

a4 a g f e d f e e

Oh, I believe in yesterday

d4 c e d a5 c4 e e

Now we have completed the first verse. The second verse have the same melody so we will jump right into the bridge:

Why she had to go I don't know, she wouldn't say

e4 e a b c5 b4 a b a g a e

I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday

e4 e a b c5 b4 a b a g b c5 g4 f e

After this you can complete the melody by playing the verse again. I recommend that you memorize the melody one line at a time. This little piano tab exercise is an introduction to the complete tab notation system you will find on the net.

People dance for different reasons: for competition, to keep fit, meet new people, or simply to have a little fun. It's even become a way of visiting new countries, as shown by the growing popularity of dance holidays in Cuba, Brazil, Italy, Spain, Egypt and many other countries. But, whether they like to admit it or not, most people would in some way agree with the definition of dancing as "a vertical expression of a horizontal desire."

Let's face it, out of the list that I started with, all except the first have probably got some link to feeling sexy or meeting people to feel sexy with, and nowhere is this more apparent than in Cuba. Salsa, Mambo, Rumba, and Cha Cha Cha are some of the islands most prominent styles of dance, and each one is intimate, flirtatious and an important part of traditional courtship rituals in Cuba. Salsa may be the most well known of the island's dances, but is it the sexiest?

History of Dance in Cuba

For any visitor on holiday in Cuba, dance is inescapable. It is part of the culture, rooted in its mixed Spanish and African heritage. Most forms of dance in Cuba have evolved from Rumba, also know as Son. This older style came to Cuba in the 19th century, and ranges from the slow and formal Rumba Yambu to the fast and overtly sexual Rumba Guaguanco. The more modern styles of Mambo, Salsa and Cha Cha Cha were all born in the aftermath of the Communist revolution in the 1950s. It was a revolution in Cuba's dance halls as well as its politics, with the excitement of change fuelling passionate and inventive new forms of dance. Due to their common roots, many of the styles have similarities, such as the distinctive Latin hip movement and close footwork. Salsa and Mambo are based on a "quick-quick-slow" rhythm, while the Cha Cha Cha has a quick three step in place of the slow step.

Learning the moves

Whether you are drawn to Mambo or Cha Cha Cha, Rumba or Salsa, a dance holiday in Cuba can provide the best introduction to your style of choice. The capital, Havana, features the best clubs for Salsa in Cuba, while the northern city of Matanzas was one of the birthplaces of Rumba. A dance holiday in Cuba certainly isn't the only way of learning your first Cuban dance moves, and it can certainly help to have a handle on the basics before splashing out on a trip abroad. But a taste of Latin American culture can be vital to really get into these dances, and a holiday in Cuba, Salsa oriented or otherwise, can only help you get into the swing of things.

Dirty Dancing

When it comes to judging which of the Cuban dance styles is the sexiest I have to admit to a certain bias; I fell in love with the Salsa dance on holiday in Cuba a long time ago. The island has shared its popular coffee, cigars and rum with the world, but when it comes to rating the finest export of Cuba, the Salsa dance should rank high on anyone's list. It's now evolved into many different styles and is practised by millions of amateurs and experts around the world, but the Salsa in Cuba remains the original and best.

Part of the appeal of the Cuban Salsa dance is its accessibility. Basic Salsa dancing is easy to learn, much more so than some of the other styles of dance in Cuba. Salsa is as tough a dance to master as any, but you can pick up the basic three step within a very short space of time; once you've got that, you're ready to go. You won't be winning competitions, but you'll be good enough to have fun and feel good on the dance floor.

Sexier than Son and more intimate than the Cha Cha Cha, it may not be the most beautiful or complicated dance in the world, but for me at least, Salsa in Cuba is still the sexiest dance of them all.

Emma Lelliott is the general manager of Captivating Cuba, an independent Cuba holiday specialist. With offices in Havana and the UK, Captivating Cuba can offer Cuban dance holidays holidays to Havana as well as expert advice on holidays to Varadero and Cayo Coco and lesser known resorts such as Jibacoa and Trinidad.

Talk, Pt. 1

The First Single of a Three Part Single Set. "Talk" is One of the Stand Out Tracks on Coldplay's Multi-platinum Third Album, "x&y", Q Magazine's #1 Album of the Year 2005. The Title Track's Melody is Built from Portion of Kraftwerk's "Computer Love" and it is Coupled with Two Exclusive Songs Recorded at the Band's 2005 Appearance at the Gelredome in Arnhem, Nederlands: "Swallowed in the Sea" and "God Put a Smile on Your Face".
Customer Review: Um...
Well, I came in here to talk GOOD about Talk because it's a very solid track. However, then after clicking on the "Talk Pt. 1" cover art, I saw Swallowed By The Sea which is my second least favorite track and went, "Ugh." Finally, I saw God Put A Smile On Your Face and thought, "Meh." It was OK, but nothing great. Still better than SBTS though. So, *Sigh*, here goes: Talk --- 4 stars. Swallowed By The Sea --- 3 stars. Something about it irks at my deepest chord. God Put A Smile Upon Your Face --- 3.5 stars. Cover Art: C- (It looks sloppy, lop-sided and tacked on and tacky compared to the odd, yet appropriate U.S. album cover art.) Inside Art: ? Songwriting: C+ Vocals: C+ Vocal Emotion: B+ Vocal Acrobatics: F+ Length: A 10.5/3 = 3.5 3.5 stars. Overall: C
Customer Review: Disc 1 of a 3-disc set, also includes the 3-disc packaging
Talk, Pt. 1, an import from Holland on the Parlophone label, includes the first of three CD singles and a nice tri-fold digipak where you can put Talk, Pt. 2 and Talk, Pt. 3. As others have said, this is the first disc only. Getting the remaining discs depends largely on your desire to be a completionist, or for your interest in live tracks. The breakdown of the three discs is as follows: Part 1: (Amazon AISN B000CNGG9Y) 1. Talk (Radio Edit) 2. Swallowed in the Sea (Live in Holland) 3. God Put A Smile Upon You Face (Live in Holland) Part 2: (Amazon AISN B000CNGGA8) 1. Talk (Album Version) 2. Square One (Live in Holland) 3. Clocks (Live in Holland) Part 3: (Amazon AISN B000CNGGAI) 1. Talk (Live in Holland) 2. Til Kingdom Come (Live in Holland) 3. Fix You (Live in Holland) Part 1 only warrants a three-star rating from me because it includes the Radio Edit of Talk. But the live tracks are good. Part 2 goes up to four stars because it includes the album version of Talk, and an excellent live rendition of Square One from X&Y. Part 3 also warrants four stars for the live tracks from X&Y, great performances all. Note that these discs have WMA copy protection. If you would like to extract tracks for your MP3 player or iPod, you will need to use a Mac to do so. By the way, parts 2 and 3 come in shrinkwrapped sleeves. This is one more reason to get part 1 and the nice tri-fold digipak.

The Bridge

Customer Review: THEY ROCK!!!!
Motion Soundtrack is amazing. They sound even better live !! Everyone should have a copy of this album, they blow Oasis away!!!!

There are many different dance styles and these styles can differ depending on the region. The main styles that people learn to dance and the most recognized styles are Jive, Waltz, Samba, Tango, Cha-cha, Salsa, Foxtrot and Rumba.

So what are these different styles? Well lets break them down.

JIVE - The Jive originated among African-Americans in the early 1940s. It is a variation of a less known style called the Jitterbug.
Jive is part of the five International Latin dances. Done correctly it is normally danced at 176 beats per minute. Due to this tempo it is known as very fast swing music.

WALTZ - When the Waltz was first introduced it shocked many. Around the 1980s the Waltz became fashionable in Vienna. The waltz, and especially its closed position, became the example for the creation of many other ballroom dances. Subsequently, new types of waltz have developed, including many folk and several ballroom dances.
It is normally danced at 84 - 90 beats per minute and normally to a Slow ballad or instrumental music in 3/4 time.

SAMBA - This dance appeared around the 20th century in Rio De Janeirio. It is one of the most popular styles in America. At 100 beats per minute this is a fast tempo dance normally with medium tempo Brazilian Latin music with a strong downbeat.

TANGO - Developed in the late 19th Century it was first seen in Argentina but as they did with many other dances, the Europeans (most notably the English) adopted the Tango and made it their own. The Tango was the result, with big movements, dramatic gestures, and quick snaps of the head from one position to another. Danced to 128 - 132 beats per minute and with Medium tempo orchestral, often march-like this style is not for the faint hearted. This can be a fun dance to learn.

Cha-Cha - The cha-cha-cha is a Latin American dance of Cuban origin. At 128 beats per minute and medium tempo Latin music. This is one hot dance to learn.

SALSA - This is a fusion of informal dance styles. Developed in the Caribbean but also in Latin America. There is a strong African influence in the music and the dance.
Salsa is usually a partner dance, although there are recognized solo steps and some forms are danced in groups of couples, with frequent exchanges of partner. This is a great dance to learn since you can learn solo.

FOXTROT - Invented by a man called Harry Fox in 1913 it ultimately became the most popular and lasting dance of the twentieth century. Foxtrot is a smooth progressive dance characterized by long, continuous flowing movements across the dance floor. With 112 - 120 beats per minute it has a basic rhythm of Slow-Quick-Quick.

RUMBA - This is a dance organically related the genre o Afro Cuban music. Throughout the history one may trace several styles of dances called "rumba".
Some consider rumba the most erotic and sensual dance, for its relatively slow rhythm and the hip movement. Learning this dance can become a steamy affair.

You may now have an idea about which dance style you may want to learn. Maybe you want to learn them all. So how do you start?

The usual method is to find a local class in your area but this could provide a stumbling block. I know when I started to learn I had to travel far to my lessons. You could go to your local library and get several books on your chosen style but this is not the best idea. You will have learn the theory but without professional advice visually how will you spot your mistakes. The recommended option if you cannot make a dance class is to get a DVD course. This option is fantastic due to the fact you can dance whenever you feel like it. You will be able to see if you are making that tango step correct.

There are many DVD courses out there for dancing but I have got you free videos for all the styles mentioned above. These can be found from the link below.
I hope I have helped you with this article and look forward to hearing from you.

The extremely talented group Counting Crows have released their most recent CD on the Geffen Records recording label, entitled August And Everything After.

Unfortunately, its not everyday that I get a CD for review that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just cant force myself to get through. Not at all the case with August And Everything After. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

These days its a very rare CD on which every single song is good or better than the one before it. This CD is certainly one of those rare CDs. This is a first rate CD, delivering a little something for everyone. I give it two thumbs up. Its quite simply great listening. A must buy for the Rock fan.

While this entire album is outstanding the truly standout tunes are track 4 - Perfect Blue Buildings, track 6 - Time And Time Again, and track 11 - A Murder Of One.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 - Round Here. Wow!

Coldplay - Live 2003 (DVD & CD)

The two-disc set includes a 90-minute, nine-camera, super 16 live shoot taken from their July 21 and 22, 2003 performances at the Horden Pavilion in Sydney, Australia, as well as band commentary, a never before broadcast behind-the-scenes documentary, a special tour diary and the edited audio CD. The DVD and CD will also include two PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED live tracks- "The One I Love" and "Moses."
Customer Review: The best concert I never went to!!
I got the Coldplay 2003 DVD as a birthday present in '04. Coldplay's my favorite band, so you can imagine my excitement. Back in the days, I never thought I could ever be in a real concert of the band, I lived too far away from any place they toured. Almost four years later, I still think the DVD was the best concert in my life. That is, taking into consideration that I went to see them, against all odds, in NYC in 2006. It's not that the concert was bad, it was one of the best days in my life. It's that to me, the DVD is so good that I can't get enough of it. The band plays perfectly, the connection with the crowd is real, the choice of songs is fantastic, the sound is epic, the transitions that go along with songs, including colors, angles and views of the crowd and the band are nothing but exciting and bright. If there's any DVD I would ever recommend, it's this one. It's the closest you'll come to live the Coldplay experience if you haven't got the chance to live it already.
Customer Review: Wow. That's all I have to say.
Not only is the music CD great, but the DVD packs quite the punch. The only tiny thing that bugged me was how the CD didn't have every song off of the DVD, but I guess that's what makes the DVD that much better. If you like Coldplay, but this DVD, you will not regret it. Best $20 musical purchase I've made in a long time.

Today's parents are not the same parents of twenty years ago. It was the extreme parent who hired a tutor when their child was earning A's and B's or who hired the personal sports trainer when their child was the star pitcher. Today, it is the extreme parent who does not do these things for their child. Parents want their children to be the best, not just to do their best.

In order to ensure their child's success, parents are always on the look out for programs that will give their child the extra edge to win the prize position, the lead role, admission to the best school, and scholarships. Academic, sports, theater, art, and music programs are available for children as young as 6 months old and offer the head start that parents are looking for.

Many parents are turning to music for results. Scientific studies link higher test scores, improved coordination, concentration levels, and study discipline to learning music at a young age. Other benefits include improved language, social, and memory skills. These benefits are realized when children become involved with music at a young age and continue for a regular and sustained period of time. Mathematics is particularly linked to music study. There are many similarities between music and mathematics including patterns, fractions, and graphing.

The popularity of music programs are increasing. Private music schools are more prevalent, self-teaching keyboards and guitars are available, and schools are offering band lessons for younger grades. Even video game manufacturers are trying to make their video games more appealing to parents by adding musical games and accessories.

The good news is that giving your child a head start doesn't have to be intense or costly. Singing to and with your child has marked benefits in addition to bonding. Clapping and banging a drum teaches basic rhythms and boosts confidence. Allowing young children to explore with an instrument for fun can easily translate into a love of music and a life-long interest.

Jesse Fisher enjoys writing articles for Allegro Rainbow- a business created to help people learn how to play musical instruments. I Can Play Guitar helps children learn to play the guitar in a fun and interesting way.
