Origin:

Samba originated in Brazil, with the music containing a combination of Iberian, Native and African influences. The modern day Samba as we know it was developed from a Brazilian style called Choro. Samba is a big part of the world famous carnival parade, and nicely compliments the Bateria.

Music:

Samba has a lot of variations, but most variations have one thing in common: A heavy percussion presence. Samba Music is played in 2/4. The common modern day Samba has the Pandeiro as the most common percussion instrument. The Violo is the other instrument which is always present. The music can vary across all themes, and is not specific to any them or emotion.

Dance:

Samba's most common dance variation is "Samba no p" which is a solo dance. Men dance with their whole feet on the ground, whereas women usually dance using the balls of their feet. The rythm is played in 2/4 and the stepping is called as "and-a-one and-a-two". The knees are used a lot in Samba, with one knee bending at a time with the upper body straight.

Latinos NZ Popularity Scale: 5/10

Samba is slowly becoming more popular in New Zealand, although Latin Clubs tend to stick to other forms of Latin Music. However, some clubs now have Samba Nights with Samba and other Brazilian rythms and dance.

The arts became a tool for fulfilling political aims, evoking the dark side of human nature. China's folk music was used to serve the communist revolution.

Unfortunately, those born after 1949 have opened their eyes to a spiritual desert. They are no longer familiar with their own heritage, which has been decimated and replaced with the communist-atheist model.

Judging by the growth and success of the Chinese New Year Spectacular, now in its fourth year, I believe that NTDTV has lived up to its word. The Spectacular really does have the effect of removing the communist "wrapping paper" around the essence of traditional Chinese values and beauty. It is not surprising that the show ranked 7th on Billboard Magazines top 10 shows in Feb 2006 based on ticket sales for the 2006 shows at Radio City Music Hall.

The Spectacular is a delight to Chinese and Western audiences alikea truly heartwarming event not to be missed. The Chinese New Year Spectacular is the best show ever to appear on stage in North America, said former member of Parliament Simma Holt. I saw the show in Canada and I would like to say to the Chinese Consulate officials, who made a statement saying that the show is political, the fact that some of the atrocities committed by the Chinese regime were re-enacted in the show is nothing unusual; interpretative dance is a feature of all great symphonies, operas and ballets.

From 1986 to 1994, Arturo Barrios was a famous Mexican runner. At the World Track and Field Cup in 1992, he finished second in the 5,000 metres. He also competed for his home country at the Olympic Games in 1988 and 1992. However, he became an American citizen in 1994.

Liliana Allen Doll became a Mexican citizen and competed in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics. This sprinter won two gold medals at the 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador (El Salvador). She was born on May 24, 1970 in Holguin, Cuba. She represented Cuba in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics.

Like Ana Mozer (Brazil), Luisa Fuentes (Peru) and Debbie Green (United States), Blanca Garcia was one of the best volleyball players in the 1970s and 1980s.

Written by George Michael Cohan, "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy" was 'Broadway Composer Cohan' at his best. Today, the wit of the lyrics and the song's tempo and temperament continue to elicit applause in theaters nationwide.

George Cohan was born at Providence, Rhode Island in 1878. He started out in show business in Vaudeville, traveling with his performing father, mother, and sister. Vaudeville is where Cohan learned the nuances of live performing and keeping audiences entertained. He was part of The Four Cohans, the name his family used as their marquee title.

Eventually Cohan made it to Tin Pan Alley as a songwriter, and Broadway as a prolific creator of musicals. "The Man Who Owned Broadway" became a catch phrase for this talented composer during his heyday in New York City. Another name bestowed on him was "The Father of American Musical Comedy". He wrote his own play scripts, music, and lyrics.

The song The Yankee Doodle Boy is from the musical comedy Little Johnny Jones. This was Cohan's first full-length musical, and his family performed in the original production.

Though not an initial success on Broadway, the musical eventually achieved acclaim after some reworking. The song is a lively number with flair. The song line "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy" is sung with unabashed patriotism. The song includes the proudly American chorus:

I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy
A Yankee Doodle, do or die
A real live nephew of my Uncle Sam
Born on the Fourth of July

The wit in the lyrics of the song was also manifest in the play itself as seen in the tongue-in-cheek name of a girl from San Francisco, Goldie Gates. Cohan's sense of humor came through in his storyline, music, and verse.

The musical opened on Broadway in New York City at the Liberty Theater, on November 7, 1904. It's the story of a jockey, Johnny Jones, who rides a horse called Yankee Doodle in the English Derby. Cohan based the character of Johnny on Hall of Fame jockey Todd Sloan (1874-1933). Other popular songs to come out of the musical were 'Give My Regards to Broadway' and 'Life's a Funny Proposition'.

Eventually a film biography was developed about George Cohan. Called Yankee Doodle Dandy, this film starred James Cagney as Cohan. Joan Leslie and Walter Huston also had roles in this film. It celebrated the accomplishments of Cohan and his rise to fame.

He wore many hats during his career as a producer, composer, actor, writer, singer, and director. His sheer output as a songwriter was phenomenal. He had over 1,500 of his songs published, and he developed the art of melding drama with music.

Cohan livened up American theater with his tunes and plays, as the art form was heading into a stagnant time. He breathed fresh life into Broadway with his fresh, catchy, lyrics and music. Cohan, who achieved the American dream through sheer talent and hard work, was himself a true Yankee Doodle Dandy.

The Waltz is the epitome of elegance and grace. When you watch two people dance the Waltz in competition, they look as if they are from another time; the men dressed in tails, the women in beautiful gowns. As they spin around the dance floor, they look as if they are floating on air.

The Waltz first became popular in Vienna in the 1780's. The Waltz is a dance you will use for the rest of your life. The Waltz will never go out of style, out of season or out of fashion. Wannabe producers always have at least one fatal flaw. Now the flaw varies from person to person, but they basically fall under 3 categories. So to lets list out the rules to keep you in the game.

People Skills

Lets start with the granddaddy. This is a people biz hombre. You deal with people all the time, whether it be label execs, engineers, or the talent you are producing.

Because of this critical point your people skills will make or break your career. This may seem overrated if you come from the school of thought that says, "if I get a single it will be enough." Honestly, maybe. But your success is so much more likely if you treat people in a way that makes them feel good.

That is what brings Rick Ruben success in this industry. That man is unquestionably the biggest thing on the scene. He has hits in all genres from Rap, to Country and people want to work with the cat because he makes them feel good, and alive.

Overshadowing

The second mistake that many produces make is to cast a looming shadow over an entire project. This is usually because the producer is a control freak. This type of producer has their fingerprints all over an album, and the artist feels suffocated by their presence.

Music is supposed to be an outflow of a vision. A song comes to life out of an artist, if they feel stifled by an overbearing oppressive regime you are not going to get the best production out of them. That is the truth.

Now, that does not mean that a good producer cannot point out flaws and errors, it just means that it should be done in a way that makes the talent want to change, not hole up and die.

Work on allowing the artist to breathe. Give them space to be an artist, but yet keep the project moving forward. Its tough, but hey that's your job.

Limited Chops

The last area that hang up wannabe producers is a limited pallet of chops. This shows up in the inability to get the sounds, beats, or vocal takes because of lack of knowledge. A know-it-all attitude is a sure way to shoot yourself in the foot.

This kind of problem rears its head in a production the has a good song but sounds like crap.
