Don't Panic

This is ultimately the question I am most frequently confronted with - is Tupac dead, or alive? Personally, I believe It all comes down to how you see death, and what YOU believe.

To cut things short, in my honest opinion, I believe Tupac is dead. A lot of people breeze over that though, and thats what the problem is. By saying he is dead, we are suggesting he is no longer alive - he no longer physically exists. But just because he doesnt exist as a physical form, a solid being, doesnt mean hes not here, right? Through Tupacs touching lyrics and music, he reached out to us, and communicated with us. Thats what he was best at. As long as we still listen to his music, his words, he will still touching us and communicating with us. So even after Tupac passed away, his music still remains - his essence still burns in our hearts. Remember, this is just what I believe. Death is a concept, depending on how you interpret it and what you believe, you may think differently. It will be great to hear your thoughts and opinions on this.

So why the Seven Day Theory? One thing Tupac was known for, was his intelligence. No, I dont mean he had outstanding grades at school. A lot of people mis-interpret the word intelligence. Knowledge is what is what one knows. Intelligence is ones ability to know. Tupacs ability to understand was immense. Just by listening to his lyrics, you can tell he was a deep thinker. He was a sensitive young male, who tried so hard to understand why things happened. But unfortunately, when trying to understand death all one is faced with is pain, and anxiety. Tupac wasnt necessarily scared of dying, but of being forgotten.

A lot of people are worried about death, but really I think they are worried about being forgotten. So many memories just erased in an instant. The only possible remedy would be to engrave those memories and stories into his songs, and then create a mystery which baffles the world for years to come. It makes sense doesnt it? Tupac was so intelligent, he would have had the ability to predict this. He would have known by leaving so many clues and hints in his lyrics, and by creating the Seven Day Theory, the world even to this day will be listening to his words in hope.

If this idea was true, it would explain just about everything - apart from the actual shooting itself. Now assuming Tupac died on September 13th 1996, we are left with two possibilities: Tupac was murdered, or he planned his death. Once again, your thoughts are welcome on this. But my personal opinion, is that Tupac planned his death. For someone living in such pain and suffering (according to his lyrics), it wouldnt be hard to give in to death, if it meant he would be perceived as a legend for decades to come. Tupac once said in an interview that he shouldve blown his brains out a long time ago. It is clear that he wasnt afraid to die, and so maybe he was willing to exchange his life for a piece of history.

Remember, this is just what I believe. Everyone has their own thoughts and views regarding Tupacs death. Maybe he is chilling on an island somewhere smoking a blunt. Or perhaps he really was murdered straight.

Cuba is famous for its beaches. People come from around the world to recline in the glorious sunshine and to venture out toward the idyllic turquoise oceans. Of course the biggest beach resort of the entire island is Varadero. Holiday makers visit this particular resort to enjoy more than 20 kilometres of fine white sands and crystal clear water. But beyond these 20 kilometres of beach, there's a whole host of glorious things to see and do for those who want more variety. The city stretches over 14.4 square kilometers, giving us plenty of things to do in Varadero ...

Natural Beauty

Okay, the beach itself is stunning - but this is actually just scratching the surface of the region's aesthetic charms. Indeed, if you do ignore everything but the beach, then you're missing beauty right under your nose; or rather, under the water. Scuba diving is magnificent in Cuba thanks to the island's splendid geographical position, its continental shelf, clear warm waters and vast marine life. With such a large beach, Varadero has 32 established diving sites catering to divers of all abilities and experience, so even if you have never tried it before, you have no excuse not to try donning a wetsuit and exploring the underwater paradise. Most hotels offer diving courses for absolute beginners and a vast array of choice for the more experienced: night dives, cave dives or open sea diving - the choice really is yours! As things to do in Varadero go, scuba diving should be high on your list - it really is an experience!

Parque Reiro Josone is another spot that's worth seeing - and you won't need a wetsuit for this one. The park has been available to visit since 1942 and is a perfect spot to be one with nature on your holiday in Varadero: beautiful trees, a tropical lake and a wide variety of fascinating avian life make this a great spot to visit, and the four restaurants and entertainment facilities means that this is the kind of place you can visit time and time again - and always find something new.

Varadero's caves are worth visiting as well - some can only be visited via the water, but others can be easily visited by those who wish to stay on land - some have even become night clubs, while others remain as great archeological value.

Culture

In terms of cultural entertainment, there are many things to do in Varadero to allow you to get a handle on the city's history and 'feel'. Santa Elvira Church is a particularly interesting structure. Built in 1938, it's an interesting throw-back to life before the revolution, and a fascinating architectural creation in its own rights with an unusual structure of stone and wood, with a suspended half arch.

The Museo Municipal is a good place to start if you want to get a feel of the history of Varadero before mass tourism through the revolution and beyond. If however it's the art that's of greater interest, then the art gallery is a must, featuring paintings, engravings, sculptures and photos by classic Cuba artists, as well as more contemporary figures, including Zaida del Rio and Manuel Mendive.

The Casa de la Cultura is a must visit for culture vultures, home as it is to Los Munequitos de Matanzaz a rumba group of internationally renowned musicians. The area is home to cultural events including poetry readings, music recitals and local trovadores entertaining the Varadero holiday makers and locals.

The Charm of the Market

The highlight for many Varadero holiday makers when they visit the town is undoubtedly the market. This isn't some kind of little market, with stalls filling the area selling everything from cigars, souvenirs, wooden carvings, Cuban figurines, musical instruments and leather works. You just can't beat the big market atmosphere, and even if you're just here to browse, you're virtually guaranteed to leave with a smile on your face.

Although it's not the most varied of resorts, there is a lot more to a holiday in Varadero than just lounging on the magnificent beach. Though that said, you would be missing out to ignore the sands completely - just try not to get sucked in if you want to enjoy the other varied things to do in Varadero!

Emma Lelliott is the general manager of Captivating Cuba, an independent Cuba holiday specialist. With offices in Havana and the UK, Captivating Cuba can help you tailor-make the perfect holidays to Varadero.

Con Mucha Potencia

Music - often called the soul of life and gateway to eternal bliss, is transformed completely with all that high-tech, well-equipped and hip recording studio, giving a new meaning to the whole concept of good music. The beautiful and catchy numbers we love and appreciate today are a result of endless and painstaking efforts in these studios and are well supported by the most modern and ultra tech recording studio equipment. It also adds that extra zing and pep to the simple songs and mundane music. So those who are initiated into music and want to make a beginning, it is a good idea to straight away make a booking in a recording studio. You can make the best use of all the studio equipment lying there to give your voice and music that extra vim and verve and make it sound more professional. Remember, even the most professional singers make use of these equipments to add support to their velvety voice and if you are just a kid of the block, it is all the more important for you to make best use of the services offered by recording studios.

Whether you are planning to cut your private album, create a profile for work or simply want to indulge in a hobby, recording studios will come to your rescue. With their services, even ordinary bathroom singers would sound like stars and stars, well, like super stars. Of course you need to have that basic thing called talent to survive and grow in this highly competitive field, but what a recording studio can do for you is to add quality, depth and balance to your voice. A variety of recording studio equipment plays its part in this. This studio equipment is mainly used for making, recording and mixing music in an ambient and classy manner.

The basic recording equipments include consoles, which may be solid state logic or newer mixing ones, multi tracks, monitors, hard disks system, patch-bays, cables and accessories, adapters and speakers, lighting equipments, synthesizers and samplers all working in tandem to make your voice crispier and sexier. Most modern studios are equipped with this equipment. As costs of recording and cutting a CD for private album are plummeting nowadays, you too can join the party at a very nominal cost.

The other alternative for you is to convert your pad into a home recording studio if you are more serious and want to have more than just a little fun. Of course there are some basic tidbits you need to remember while making a dream studio at home.

First and foremost, you need to plan and budget your expenditure well in advance as choices are plenty, and options unlimited. Decide whether you want to go for new equipment or a pre-owned one, which are also available at reasonable costs.

Some of the basic requirements of home recording studios are keyboards, synthesizers, patch-bays, adapters, at least 2 sets of speakers, computer monitors, mikes and lighting equipments. It is a good idea to make sure that you have your music keyboard and computer key board near each other to have perfect harmony. You also need to put in place a bass trap and sound absorbers to diffuse the irritating and uneven bass frequencies and to add to the acoustics of your studio.

Remember- what a recording studio can do is to package and polish and shape and sharpen your voice and make you more confident and comfortable with your singing abilities. So dont worry about the audience reaction any more go ahead and Sing!

Roller Hockey

The sport of hockey has many variations, including the Olympic sports of ice hockey and field hockey. Roller Hockey however, has also gained in popularity, as a recreational activity and as a competitive sport. It is an extremely fast sport, exciting for spectators to watch, and demanding a lot of skill.

There are two distinct disciplines within the sport, with their own equipment and rules. The original Roller Hockey is played, using traditional quad roller skates. When inline skates were invented, the new Inline Hockey evolved. Both sports are played in many countries but the US and Canada favor Inline Hockey. The different choice of skates results in a different skating style. There is more intricate footwork in Quad Hockey and it is easier for the players to maneuver. Inline Hockey contains more racing around and is similar to Ice Hockey action.

The goalies differ in that they use different gloves for each sport. Inline Hockey goalies use a catch glove, whereas Quad Hockey goalies block shots with a batting glove. Each of the Roller Hockey teams are made up of four skaters and a goalie. Inline Hockey, also known as Street Hockey, is played over two, 20 minute periods. Quad Hockey, sometimes referred to as Hardball Hockey, is played for an extra five minutes in each period.

Every sport wants Olympic status and Quad Hockey was a demonstration sport at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona in 1992. Many World Championships have taken place, with the Latin countries dominating. Portugal is the most successful country, winning 15 Quad Championships. Inline Hockey World Championships are rather more complicated as there are two different events each year. One is organized by the International Roller Sports Federation and the other is run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The United States and Canada are the traditional leaders in the sport but Inline Hockey is becoming more popular across Europe and Latin America.

Women have come to the sport too, becoming increasingly organized. Both Roller Hockey disciplines have structured competitions. Inline Hockey has had Women's World Championships since 2002 and women have competed on the world stage in Quad Hockey, since 1992. Again, the Quad Championships are dominated by Latin countries. Roller Hockey started as an amateur pastime, played on the streets and local rinks. Ice Hockey may still be the leading stick and puck sport, but the other versions are keen to catch up. Countries without a tradition of playing sport on ice have welcomed this type of hockey too.

I Wish You Would Come Home Already

Spring cleaning is over, and you're staring at seven crates of rare vinyl records that your parents had stuffed in a corner of your basement for the last 15 years. Forgotten memories? Or potential goldmine? The value of records is increasing, much like the sales, and record dealers and enthusiasts alike are looking to grade and price their collections for reselling on the market, eBay being the largest marketplace at this moment in time.

If you own collectible or rare vinyl records, it would be in your best interest to have those records appraised to determine their worth. The most common way of discovering the value would be to seek the services of a professional records appraiser, who will analyze the condition, rarity, and playability of the record. As well, they will take a look at other aspects such as:

  • The release date - The older the record, the more it could be worth.
  • Whether the record is sealed or not - If it hasn't been played, the value will increase.
  • Limited release records also hold increased value - e.g. only 1000 copies pressed.

If you happen to have several crates of old LP's and 45's that you are interested in getting appraised, it could wind up to be fairly expensive especially if you have limited knowledge of how records are graded. My suggestion would be to purchase a vinyl records price guide which lists the current market price and requirements for buying and selling rare vinyl LP's. I have used Tim Neely's Goldmine Record Album Price Guide for quite a few years, and it is by far the most comprehensive and easy to navigate price guide on the market today.

Cover Art is also a factor to consider when looking to buy or sell rare vinyl records. During the 60's and 70's many celebrity artists collaborated with musicians and bands they respected in the form of cover art and inner sleeves, Andy Warhol being one of the more popular. Don't forget that any artwork with nudity seems to be popular amongst buyers just the same! Remember, vinyl outsold CD's in 2007 for the first time in many, many years and this is a great time to get into collecting records and begin experiencing the warmth and quality that they bring. If you download an mp3 you're given a thin-sounding, compressed audio file with a digital image thumbnail of the album cover and artwork. With vinyl records you get an experience that is truly one of a kind, and there is no feeling quite like it!

Getz/Gilberto

Originally released in March 1964, this collaboration between saxophonist Stan Getz and guitarist João Gilberto came at seemingly the end of the bossa nova craze Getz himself had sparked in 1962 with Jazz Samba, his release with American guitarist Charlie Byrd. Jazz Samba remains the only jazz album to reach number one in the pop charts. In fact, the story goes that Getz had to push for the release of Getz/Gilberto since the company did not want to compete with its own hit; it was a good thing he did. Getz/Gilberto, which featured composer Antonio Carlos Jobim on piano, not only yielded the hit "Girl from Ipanema" (sung by Astrud Gilberto, the guitarist's wife, who had no professional experience) but also "Corcovado" ("Quiet Night")--an instant standard, and the definitive version of "Desafinado." Getz/Gilberto spent 96 weeks in the charts and won four Grammys. It remains one of those rare cases in popular music where commercial success matches artistic merit. Bossa nova's "cool" aesthetic--with its understated rhythms, rich harmonies, and slightly detached delivery--had been influenced, in part, by cool jazz. Gilberto in particular was a Stan Getz fan. Getz, with his lyricism, the bittersweet longing in his sound, and his restrained but strong swing, was the perfect fit. His lines, at once decisive and evanescent, focus the rest of the group's performance without overpowering. A classic. --Fernando Gonzalez
Customer Review: Wonderful Music!
Wonderful and relaxing music. Very soft, wonderful sound tracks. There are two soundtracks of "The Girl From Ipanema," with the first being the ultimate recording. I would highly recommend this CD for anyone who enjoys cool jazz or any relaxing International-style music.
Customer Review: A Serendipitous Masterpiece
In history, seemingly all great things are happenstance. One could certainly say the same about this serendipitous recording. A quiet, gentle, beautiful record of 8 songs (and 2 reprises) it created a time capsule of that era that surprisingly stands up to todays standards. A great album to relax to, put it on when you need to seriously unwind without drugs or alcohol. It works amazingly well.

Things looking bleak?

When milestone days approach, a holiday, a birthday or deathday, do your emotions tumble downhill as you struggle with lonely, depressing efforts to hold back your feelings? Is the one you really want with someone else, or did he or she pass away, yet you hunger and yearn for whom is missing? Do you have to push away painful memories just to get through the day and that takes all your concentration and energy? The pain of heartbreak can be acute and overwhelming. Your grief keeps you focused on the pain when you think about them. Maybe after fifty years you only remember the day someone died or your first love's face as he left you. The grief blocks all the good memories that lie beneath waiting.

Would you like to try a quick fix for an enduring heartache?
You have memories of these people that are yours to enjoy, too. If you can just get past the grief, even temporarily, you might recapture lost moments of joy.

Take tonight to be alone and set the stage for memories of someone who was once precious, but is now missing. Light some candles, get out the worn photos, drop the fake smile from your face....finally, and allow yourself to really feel the pain. Step into the murky water of your tears and despair and wail and cry, for say, ten minutes. Then, take the next ten minutes to crank up some rhythmic music and express the pain physically. Boldly and wildly move your body in an expression of your hurt. Next, gradually change the dance to a joyful or silly one, like the chicken dance. The physical efforts release brain chemicals. Hopefully, no one is watching this cathartic gig but if someone is, explain that you dance for your health.

Grief held inside is poison. The act of grieving is about releasing the toxic thoughts and physical ramifications of those thoughts. Faking it, smiling when you could split apart in pain or pretending you do not care is not fooling your organs. Get the pent up rage, despair, guilt or envy out of you. Just talking about it or ignoring it will not release grief as well as the Brokenheart Stomp. The change from a grieving movement to a happier movement will send a powerful signal to the mind that you are trying to recover from grief.

Purging grief is a detox cleanse that allows you to recover joy and balance to your mind and gut. You NEVER have to stop feeling love and longing for what you miss, but you need to periodically fall back deeply into your sadness, feel terrible and then release it quickly just like a cramp in your foot. When the pain begins to build up, try shaking it out and then laugh loudly long before you sincerely feel happy. Our bodies respond to the emotion we act out, so act out a joyful dance.

Loving someone - even if it does not last - can become a source of experience and strength to treasure, if you learn to release the grief regularly. Grief can last years, but your nervous system needs a break frequently. The Heartbreak Stomp may shorten the pain by grieving the feelings out just a bit while you laugh at your antics. Take this opportunity to remember the good and bask for a bit in positive memories of having loved someone dearly. Eventually, the pain will go and the good memories will heal your heart and last forever.

The traditional record labels dominated music market is coming to an end. If you haven't noticed the latest MP3 download services on Amazon.com, you're missing the beginning of the end of traditional music distribution era.

The big players now are teaming with social networking sites such as MySpace.com to find new ways to sell music. Why? They can't help it. People don't want to pay for CDs anymore. Plus, there's no need to buy CDs when you can download them for free somewhere on the internet. After several years of battling, the big labels finally realized the trend is irreversible.

However, this is not new for the independent/unsigned musicians. Independent musicians have long been promoting their recordings via unconventional channels. The entry of the big record labels on the internet music communities will have an impact on the indie musicians. But unsigned musicians still have one obvious advantage over the big labels - giving out music for free.

Why should you give away free music on the internet? One obvious reason is that people don't want to pay any more. People I mean by teenagers and generation Y and beyond. Those are the audiences who don't understand life without the internet. You probably can find a free copy of any given song on the internet if you dig far enough.

The latest proof to this is that big record labels are teaming up with the social networking sites to promote and distribute music. This is the marketing niche where independent musicians have had since the beginning of the internet usage. So how much impact will indie musicians feel? Big. The social networking communities have been independent musicians' marketing channel, the entry of big players will certainly push the small bands to the back burners. For independent musicians to achieve any form of success on the Internet, they have to take radical steps that big labels won't take such as giving away music for free. At this point we don't know how the record label/social networking music alliance will work out, but one thing for certain is that the music won't be all for free downloading.

Bharatanatyam is a classical dance form that claims its source from Tamil Nadu, South India. Most of the sculptures in Hindu temples are based on Bharata Natyam dance postures known as karanas. In fact, it is the celestial female dancers or apsaras, who are depicted in many scriptures performing this heavenly dance, known on earth as Bharatanatyam. In the most essential sense, a Hindu deity is revered in royal opulence in his temple and offered a standard set of religious services called arotiks, among which are music and dance that are pleasing to the senses. Bharata Natyam as a dance form and carnatic music set to it are deeply grounded in the devotional mood, Bhakti. Bharata Natyam is said to be the embodiment of music in visual form and an offering of devotion.

Bharatanatyam is the manifestation of the ancient idea of the celebration of the eternal universe through the beauty of the material body.

The physical expressions express a poetic meaning known as Abinaya. It means that the emphasis is more on facial expressions than rhythmic movements. Abinaya is divided into four categories:

1. Angikabhinaya

2. Vachikabhinaya

3. Aharyabhinaya

4. Satvikabhinaya

Angikabhinaya : Expressing the meanings of lyrics through the body parts like Head, Hands, Legs etc.

Vachikabhinaya : Expressing the Story via a dance drama

Aharyabhinaya : Imitating the dresses, Jewellery, Make-up etc. in the dance.

Satvikabhinaya: Showing the devotional moods come under Satvikabhinaya.

Lord Shiva is said to be the embodiment of the 4 types of abinaya.

Kathak is a partly narrated dance form based on fast footwork (tatkar), spins (chakkar) and innovative use of the devotional moods in abhinaya. Today it's more of a form that has been practiced in the past by historical narratives, by kathakas or ancient bards, temple performances and the bhakti movement.

Kathak is an important classical dance in the culture of India, and an increasingly world popular theater art form. The word Kathak comes from katha, which means "pastimes-telling". 'Katha kahey so kathak kahaye', which means one who narrates a pastime through a dance form is a Kathak. Long ago, the performers of kathak known as Kathakars narrated stories in temples of North India. The movement of hands, body and facial expressions used by the Kathakars to enrich the narrative, has given birth to Kathak.

Accoring to history, the earliest reference of this art is found in the Mahabharata, the great epic poem spoken about five thousands years ago. At this early stage the art of Kathak was performed by a group of Brahmins in glorification of the lord.

Change in the Bhakti Era

During the period of fervent worship of Radha and Krishna, Kathak was used to narrate pastimes of these two eternal personalities. Popular performances included Sri Krishna's exploits in the holy land of Vrindavan, and pastimes of Krishna's mischiefs as a child.

Even the most successful businesses suffer from third-quarter blues. At times, results are easy to justify capital expenditures, seasonal market fluctuations or even act-of-nature catastrophes. Some companies may even spoil third quarter results to spare the triumphant fourth. Or, perhaps the dismal quarter is part of a wider business strategy that shareholders and analysts understand and support. At other times, the alarming red ink is a real wake-up call that leads to financial housekeeping, an executive sweep or a fiscal crisis plan.

But often, its not the results that are at fault, but the planning method that generates them. A business is not entirely unlike an individual when it makes short-term decisions that are not in alignment with the core values of the company the end result is nearly always disappointing.

Lets face it. Business leaders are under pressure to produce results now. They can easily bend to the will of investors and boards, who want quick returns and payoffsquick indicators of success. All too often, a leaders long-term vision for company growth and achievement is sacrificed to the demands of quarterly reports or the profit and loss statement. And that sacrifice leads to bad decisions that compromise the underpinning values of the organization and unsurprisingly, can shipwreck quarterly earnings and maroon long-term gains.

So how does a business leader set the right goals?

According to veteran entrepreneur Peter H. Thomas, youand your companyshould dance your way to success through mutual goals that are adopted step by step and always in alignment with your values. In Thomas blueprint for success, he suggests the RUMBA, a goal-setting process that determines worthwhile objectives in terms of:

--> Realistic

--> Understandable

--> Meaningful & Measurable

--> Believable; and,

--> Agreed upon.

To stage the process, and bring it into focus and vision, business leaders focus on the following questions:

  • Are our goals realistic? Are they grounded in clear ideas of what we want and whats required to achieve them?
  • Are we willing to take risks, and if so, whats our risk quotient?
  • Are the goals understandable? Are the objectives clearly defined?
  • Are the goals personally meaningful to our company and its stakeholders? Are they measurable with objective indicators?
  • Do we believe wholeheartedly in the short-term objectives and the long-term goal we expect to achieve?
  • Are the goals and objectives agreed upon by the people who have stake in our company?
  • Even then, while the focus and balance needed to be a leader may give a company stability and trajectory, company goals that dont align with company values will always be a threat to future growth.

    As Plato said in the text Alcibiades, Know Thyself. As a business leader, youre charged with the task of holding a vision for the company, and maintaining the appropriate perspective to achieve it. Dont let unaligned interests cloud your sight. A well-focused leader who sets goals using criteria consistent with personal and corporate values will achieve over the long haul.

    Quarterly results dont have to be dreaded, or be a catalyst for financial housekeeping or maybe the executive sweep. When goals are in step with stakeholder expectations and aligned with core values, its all easya piece of cake, says Thomas.

    Moreover, dancing with a goal-setting strategyand aligning it on a values-driven courseoffer benefits beyond the achievement of the goals themselves. These methods combined are a surefire way to motivate and inspire others, develop clarity and will boost the energy and confidence needed among colleagues and customers to reach even the tallest company peak.
