Singing lessons are very useful for those of us who love to sing and would like to improve our vocal technique as well as our overall pitch and rhythm sense. However, some singing students may be a little overwhelmed whenever they attend lessons, and may not know how to best make use of the time that they have with their vocal coach or singing instructor!

Here are some important tips for all singing students, so that you will be able to make the most out of your singing lessons, and be able to improve quickly in your singing and vocal technique:

Get A Good Vocal Coach

For your vocal lessons to be genuinely useful to you in developing a better singing voice, you will need an experienced vocal coach who is able to 'diagnose' your voice and know exactly what exercises you will need in order to improve your singing! For example, you may need more exercises to strengthen your chest voice, or more pitching or rhythm training, or even some basic lessons in pronunciation and diction. Your vocal coach should be able to tell you what you need, and be able to communicate these ideas to your clearly!

Always Come Prepared For Lessons

Every singing lesson is an opportunity for you to talk to an expert in singing and to learn as much as you can from your vocal coach! So, always come prepared with questions that you may have had during the past week or are genuinely curious about. This will show your vocal coach that you are motivated about learning how to sing, and he or she will be more inclined to teach you even more! Your instructor will also be able to understand better what are your main concerns and how best to answer them so that you will be able to improve even more!

Practice, Practice and More Practice

Make sure you practice whatever vocal drills or pitching exercises that your singing instructor has given you during the singing lessons. Learning how to sing is just like learning how to play any musical instrument, and as with any instrument, practice is absolutely essential if we want to improve in our playing or singing skills! Also, pay attention to how you practiced during your lesson with your vocal instructor so that when you practice at home, you know how to do it correctly and certainly not inadvertently harm your voice during your self-practice!

Be Patient

Learning how to sing well takes some time and effort, and certainly does not happen overnight. Just like how it takes a piano player many years before he or she is able to be great at playing the piano, so it will also take us a certain period of time before we are able to master our singing voice! Even professional singers take regular singing lessons to keep their voices in top form, and to keep improving in their vocal technique!

One reason for a longer learning curve is because our voice learns through what we call 'muscle memory'. Many of the functions of our vocal cords and voice box are involuntary reflexes that we cannot control consciously. In order for us to correct our singing habits, we need to practice positive reinforcement through muscle memory, using the correct singing methods often so that our voice and our brain remembers them and uses them each time we sing!

Enjoy The Learning Process

One great thing about singing is that it is fun and enjoyable even during proper lessons, and we would certainly be able to enjoy the learning process that we must go through in order to get a better singing voice! Once we accept the long learning process, we will certainly be more relaxed during our lessons and be able to improve our voice even more! It is a virtuous cycle that singing students will be able to benefit from with the correct mindset and attitude.

With these important pointers in mind each time we attend our singing lessons, we will certainly be able to get the most out of our lessons and achieve a great singing voice through practice and patience!

If ballroom dancing is a past time of yours that you enjoy but you suffer from a verruca, then you will understand the importance of wearing the right shoes. However, even though the right footwear is worn on the feet it is still no guarantee there will be no discomfort. Treatment is needed so that you may continue in upping your performance on the dance floor like that of Mr Gene Kelly. If your dancing has been put on hold because of this problem, then speak with your doctor for advice on how to ease the discomfort so that you can dance again.

A verruca (plantar wart) is a type of wart found on the lower limb (sole of the foot). It is no different to that of a common wart as we know them - but because of the body weight pressing down onto the verruca it then becomes painful and sore. The appearance of this foot wart - is slightly raised and round with a thickened edge of surrounding skin. Other signs and strong points to look out for - to decipher this type of verruca is that of fine tiny black dots. It is not uncommon to find a cluster of them to appear all together.

A mound/clump or clusters of small warts are referred to as 'mosaic warts' - these you will be happy to hear are usually painless. If you are a concerned parent and worried about the children developing warts then do not worry because, this type of verruca in minors - tend to appear and then disappear. I don`t want to burst any ones bubble but warts on adults can persist for a long time (years) if left unattended (not treated).
Just like other warts, a verruca can stem from the strains of the papillomavirus.

Do not be alarmed but papillomavirus is present in huge amounts on a vast majority of different humans which is carried on the surface of their skin. This will not cause any harm or cause problems unless it pierces the skin. Unhealthy and neglected skin e.g. skin with fine cracks on the surface may well be the likely place for this to happen.

There is no real proven guarantee that a verruca is picked up in swimming pools as a great many people are led to believe. In saying that, there is without a doubt plenty of papillomavirus around swimming pools etc, particularly so in the shower area. Remember you are very unlikely to get a verruca if your skin is without flaws. A good idea to minimize any risk if this is a big worry for you is, to consider wearing flip-flops or open sandals in the shower.

If those dancing shoes are left on the shelf for to long - you may just forget how to tango or rumba. Some good advice is to pop along to the doctor so that he/she can check you over. Try not swap shoes.

Dancing is essentially a mood enhancer and a very good way to burn off some calories as well. But dancing on skates will require some great body balancing skills, and a lot more fun at that. Some popular workouts are jam skating, roller dancing and relaxing. With a pair of roller skates and some funky music, you could virtually invent your own style. If you do together in a group, there is no telling what you can come up with, especially if you put in some acrobatic maneuvers as well. Well, all in, it is just fun.

Through the years, skate dancing has evolved from one form to another. Its popularity has been like a roller coaster ride, sometimes reaching great heights and other times reached ebb. As most group roller skates dancing is done at roller links, its availability has clipped the popularity of roller dancing somewhat. With maintenance at an all time high, it is a sad fact that public roller rinks are shutting down with added frequencies. No matter what, roller dancing will always be a fantastic way for a group to excite themselves, and it will somehow live on, whether there are roller rinks or not.

Roller skates dancing are a great way to stay cohesive with your group of friends. It is very physical because you can see your friends, you can bump into them and you move your bodies in unison to the thumping music together. Contrastingly, you will not be able to sense that reality if you were to just network your friends through the internet! As the saying goes, people need to get physical and not going virtual. You might have thousands of friends in MySpace, but you don't really know them at all.

One of the real benefits of dancing with skates is that you can get a real sweat out. Just dance for an hour and you will burn off 350 calories. It is a real body trimmer, and you will get a wonderful mood after the dancing. It is also one of those rare occasions that you can exercise and still enjoy the music at the same time. If you are a gal, roller dancing on a regular basis will shape your body like a ballerina. Your muscles will be so flexible that you can even contort yourself into a little box.

But before you can dance on your skates, you will have to learn proper skating techniques and also tech yourself stability control on those wheels. Good skate dancing can only be done on quad roller skates. Inlines are not suitable, and if you have basic ice or figure skating skills, you will do well on the dance floor.

You can learn a lot about email marketing from Latin dancing. In fact you can learn the biggest secret to exploding your profits in nearly any market.

I do a little Latin dancing. That's how I met my beautiful fiancee Pamela - a real live rocket scientist.

She must be the most stunning rocket scientist in history. No wonder Columbia crashed.

Just kidding - she had nothing to do with that particular space shuttle. The space shuttle she worked with came home just fine.

Why do I say Latin dancing can explode your marketing profits...?

In salsa dancing there are 6 steps in the basic movement (3 forward, 3 back). In cha cha there are 10.

When you learn to dance you quickly learn that there are a series of steps required to do a movement properly. It's the same with email marketing.

People go through a process before they buy and generally speaking the process is longer the higher the price of the product or service. Most people will take a lot longer to buy a house than a bag of apples for example.

One study showed that most people buy AFTER the sixth contact from a sales person.

Understanding this will help you create the multiple steps you need in your marketing to take your prospects from A-Z step by step.

Also in dancing your moves are fluid - they flow with the music and your partner.

And that's how your marketing should be - each step should flow with your prospect, where they're at and their needs and desires.

So look at what key information your prospect needs to make a buying decision and then use your email autoresponder series to get that information to them at key times.

Emails leading to short reports, audio and video are very powerful.

Most important is to constantly analyze and improve on the way you help your prospects step by step to understand exactly how and why it will benefit them to do business with you.

I've set up email lists where over 60% of the subscribers click through to the site from an email.

Most email marketers are lucky to get a 5% click through rate.

The secret to creating a powerful email list is to really think through how you can give outstanding value to your list FIRST.

Then think about creating a sequence of emails where you might send out links to quality content in 2 emails then a link to a product offer then 2 more links to quality content and so on.

The term Ballroom Dancing is the most general and the oldest term that is used to describe formal dances and generally includes Waltz, Tango, Slow Foxtrot, Quickstep and Viennese Waltz dances as well as some of the Latin dances. There two types of waltz in this group, the Classic Waltz and the Viennese Waltz.

The Classic Waltz is known as the mother of dances as it was the first dance where people actually danced in front of each other. This made it a very exciting dance when it was first introduced. It is based on an 18th century Austrian folk-dance and the steps are based on a box step with a rotary motion. The Classic Waltz, or the 'slow' or 'English' Waltz as it is sometimes called, is known for a gliding motion with a slight rise and fall and is normally danced to a slow tempo which requires a large degree of control to dance well.

The Viennese Waltz on the other hand is elegant and beautiful to watch. It is sometimes seen in movies and even Disney cartoons! As the name suggests it is linked to Vienna where the Aristocracy danced the Viennese Waltz to music by Strauss and other classical composers. The Viennese Waltz is a faster movement than the Classical Waltz, and is danced at about 180 beats (58-60 measures) a minute, as opposed to about 90 beats per minute with 3 beats to the bar for the Classical Waltz.

The Viennese Waltz is a rotary motion where the dancers are constantly turning either in a clockwise (natural) or anti-clockwise (reverse) direction. This is interspersed with non-rotating change steps to switch between the directions of rotation. Furthermore, in a properly danced Viennese Waltz, couples do not pass, but turn continuously left and right while they travel counterclockwise around the floor following each other in procession. Although this dance is still danced on social occasions, it is more usual for the Classical Waltz to be used.

In the Standard dances such as the waltzes, men traditionally wear formal coat-tails, vests or waistcoats, and bow ties. Women wear elegant and colorful gowns, often with sheer fabric draped from the shoulders or arms. Partners remain in closed position facing each other, throughout the dance, and movements tend to be elegant and sweeping.

American Smooth allows more open work where the partners can separate from each other and dance in open positions. American Smooth can be best described as a variation of ballroom dancing with an enhanced range of movements and exciting steps. All basic principles and the technique of ballroom dancing still apply, however partners are not required to maintain a continuous body contact. The removal of the body contact restriction allows the dancers to perform a variety of new steps such as: lady under arm turns, spins, side by side positions, parallel turns, dips, drops and other variations that would never be allowed in the traditional ballroom dancing.

The term 'Ballroom' has been used to describe Waltz, Tango, Slow Foxtrot, Quickstep and Viennese Waltz as a group of dances together with a range of Latin dances such as the Rumba, Quickstep and Cha-Cha-Cha. Ballroom dances may have at one time also included historical dances like Minuet, Quadrille, Polonaise, Pas de Gras, and Mazurka. However there was no standard definition and so as different dances were introduced new terms were introduced to differentiate these. "Modern Ballroom" (in short "Modern"), was introduced in Britain to referring to Old Time, Sequence or Latin-American dances.

But in Europe the term "Modern" was already frequently used to describe a totally different type of dancing (eg. jazz or other form of solo dancing), so the term Standard was introduced instead. But "Standard" had an unclear meaning in America, where there is an American version of it called American Smooth. Therefore American's introduced the term "International Standard" to make the difference clear.

In spite of its historical image as a pastime for the privileged; formal competitions, sometimes referred to as DanceSport, allow participation by less advanced dancers at various proficiency levels. In the United States, amateur dance proficiency levels are defined by USA Dance (formerly United States Amateur Ballroom Dance Association,) The International Olympic Committee now recognizes competitive ballroom dance. It is doubtful that it will be included as an official sport in the Olympic Games especially in light of efforts to reduce the number of offerings, but the application has not been permanently rejected.

Of all of the dances, the Waltz is the perfect one to learn first. It can be learnt in a few minutes and yet can take a lifetime to master.

The art of brutality in its purest, rawest form. That is what UFC offers, or at least it did at one time. Gone are the days of the blood-lust, the modern UFC looks more like a ballet. In its primitive beginnings UFC was the anything goes, bare knuckle blood fest that pulled from underground foreign fighting circuits and targeted the violence nurtured American populace. It was for people who liked to watch men destroy each other, plain and simple. Now, UFC has adapted itself to the mainstream. Instead Oh, my god, how much more can he take? commentators are more likely to be heard saying My god, the ref called that on in a hurry. What prompted this radical change in style?

When The Ultimate Fighter started on UFC, the producers knew some changes had to be made. Even under the protections of late night cable, a weekly UFC was not going to get away with the dangers of the no holds barred style. What if, for example, someone was seriously injured, or even killed? The adjustments were made, and thus UFC crept into the mainstream.

Once heralded as the ultimate underground fighting promotion, UFC is now regarded as the contender to take over for Boxing as the century rolls on. Pundits argue that the diverse styles that UFC attracts place their fighters above boxers in terms of intelligence and dynamics. UFC fighters can be anything from Ninjas to street brawlers, it is hard to say, unless you are a seasoned fan, what direction a UFC fight is going to go in. Is it going to be a submission showdown? Or a knockout? This is part of the glamour of the fight.

As UFC moves further and further from its underground roots with charismatic fighters replacing the scarred warriors of past days, it seems nothing can stop it from becoming the sporting event of the future.

Customer Review: Fantastic energy!
Simple awesome movie and I was really enthralled by the charisma, the energy of the lead actor. The movie as such is similar to many 80's dance movies but being a Salsa dancer I enjoyed this one so much more. I now keep it in my laptop and watch the opening scene every time I need some positive feel or want to get into the mood of hitting the dance floors. Highly recommended to the Salseros.
Customer Review: Don't Waste Your Money
I bought this because my teenage son and his girlfriend loved Take The Lead and were interested in learning more about latin dancing. The dancing is marginal but the dialogue and acting are TERRIBLE! We couldn't watch it after the first 20 minutes - even the teenagers who, quite frankly, are not the best judges of acting!

Ancient and Pre-historic Music

When you have no words to tell your feelings, silence is the best way to express it. But sometimes when silence fails to do its work, we take refuge to music. To quote Aldous Huxley After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music. Music has the magical powers to tell the world your thoughts and feelings. It is the best creation of the Gods' best creation (man). A song floating from any distant place would fill your heart with sudden joy and remove your sadness. There are different kinds of music to describe the different kinds of moods.

But what made man to create this rhythm or what is the source of his inspiration and creation? To answer this question we have to travel thousands of years back, when man was nomadic or was not fully civilized. It might be that long-long ago man was enticed by the natural beauty and sounds. The chirping of birds, the quivering of the lissome rivers or the gushing wind must have created some ripples in his heart and led him to produce this melody. So we can say that nature taught man to give birth rhythm. Every object of nature is steeped in music. Man learned to create music against the natural backdrop of sound. The music produced by the animals and birds in the form of sound which use to communicate, taught them to make this melodious discovery. Music is found in every culture and society, both past and present. However there is gulf of differences in their type and style.

Scientists believe that the modern human beings have emerged from Africa some 160,000 years ago. Around 50,000 years ago, they began to disperse to all the habitable continents around the world. As music is traced in all the cultures, including the most isolated groups of people, so scientists hold the view that music must have existed even before the dispersal of human beings. Thus it has been concluded that the first music must have originated in Africa. Some evolutionary biologists hold the view that the ability to recognize the sound not created by human beings as musical gives them a selective advantage. Prehistoric music or also once called as primitive music, is the name given to all kinds of music in the prehistoric culture. The prehistoric era ends with the development of writing and so with that, ends the prehistoric music.

The oldest known song was written in cuneiform in harmonies of thirds using Pythagorean tuning of the diatonic scale, about 4000 years ago from Ur. It was deciphered by Prof. Daffkorn Kilmer. At that era double pipes, bagpipes, double flutes were most prevalent. In Indus Valley Civilization, however, seven holed flutes as well as uses of string instruments prove that music was well cultured art in ancient period.

All these information clearly present the idea that, from the very beginning of human civilization and even before that, music was a great companion in the struggles for existence. The buoyancy of music relieved wretched prehistoric people from their grief, sorrows, fear and loneliness. It is those feelings which led man to explore more and more into the fields of music.

Don't Panic

Among our friends and clients at Lingoport, we regularly see ranges of confusion, to complete lack of awareness of what Unicode is. So for the less- or under-informed, perhaps this article will help. The advent of Unicode is a key underpinning for global software applications and websites so that they can support worldwide language scripts. So it's a very important standard to be aware of, whether you're in localization, an engineer or a business manager.

Unicode Growth

Firstly, Unicode is a character set standard used for displaying and processing language data in computer applications. The Unicode character set is the entire world's set of characters, including letters, numbers, currencies, symbols and the like, supporting a number of character encodings to make that all happen. Before your eyes glaze over, let me explain what character encoding means. You have to remember that for a computer, all information is represented in zeros and ones (i.e. binary values). So if you think of the letter A in the ASCII standard of zeros and ones it would look like this: 1000001. That is, a 1 then five zeros and a 1 to make a total of 7 bits. This binary representation for A is called A's code point, and this mapping of zeros and ones to characters is called the character encoding. In the early days of computing, unless you did something very special, ASCII (7 bits per character) was how your data got managed. The problem is that ASCII doesn't leave you enough zeros and ones to represent extended characters, like accents and characters specific to non-English alphabets, such as you find in European languages. You certainly can't support the complex characters that make up Chinese, Korean and Japanese languages. These languages require 8-bit (single-byte) or 16-bit (double-byte) character encodings. One important note on all of these single- and double-byte encodings is that they are a superset of 7-bit ASCII encoding, which means that English code points will always be the same regardless the encoding.

The Bad Old Days

In the early computing days, specific character single- and double-byte encodings were developed to support various languages. That was very bad, as it meant that software developers needed to build a version of their application for every language they wanted to support that used a different encoding. You'd have the Japanese version, the Western European language version, the English-only version and so on. You'd end up with a hoard of individual software code bases, each needing their own testing, updating and ongoing maintenance and support, which is very expensive, and pretty near impossible for businesses to realistically support without serious digressions among the various language versions over time. You don't see this problem very often for newly developed applications, but there are plenty of holdovers. We see it typically when a new client has turned over their source code to a particular country partner or marketing agent which was responsible for adapting the code to multiple languages. The worst case I saw was in 2004 when a particular client, who I will leave unmentioned, had a legacy product with 18 separate language versions and had no real idea any longer the level of functionality that varied from language to language. That's no way to grow a corporate empire!

ISO Latin

A single-byte character set that we often see in applications is ISO Latin 1, which is represented in various encoding standards such as ISO-8859-1 for UNIX, Windows-1252 for Windows and MacRoman on guess what platform. This character set supports characters used in Western European languages such as French, Spanish, German, and U.K. English. Since each character requires only a single byte, this character set provides support for multiple languages, while avoiding the work required to support either Unicode or a double-byte encoding. Trouble is that still leaves out much of the world. For example, to support Eastern European languages you need to use a different character set, often referred to as Latin 2, which provides the characters that are uniquely needed for these languages. There are also separate character sets for Baltic languages, Turkish, Arabic, Hebrew, and on and on. When having to internationalize software for the first time, sometimes companies will start with just supporting ISO Latin 1 if it meets their immediate marketing requirements and deal with the more extensive work of supporting other languages later. The reason is that it's likely these software applications will need major reworking of the encoding support in their database and functions, methods and classes within their source code to go beyond ISO Latin support, which means more time and more money - often cascading into later releases and foregone revenues. However, if the software company has truly global ambitions, they will need to take that plunge and provide Unicode support. I'll argue that if companies are supporting global customers, and even not doing a bit of translation/localization for the interface, they still need to support Unicode so they can provide processing of their customer's global data.

Unicode

We come back to Unicode, which as we mentioned above, is a character set created to enable support of any written language worldwide. Now you might find a language or two lacking Unicode support for its script but that is becoming extremely isolated. For instance, currently Javanese, Loma, and Tai Viet are among scripts not yet supported. Arcane until you need them I suppose. I remember a few years ago when we were developing a multi-lingual site which needed support for Khmer and Armenian, and we were thankful that Unicode had just added their support a few months prior. If you have a marketing requirement for your software to support Japanese or Chinese, think Unicode. That's because you will need to move to a double-byte encoding at the very least, and as soon as you go through the trouble to do that, you might as well support Unicode and get the added benefit of support for all languages.

UTF-8

Once you've chosen to support Unicode, you must decide on the specific character encoding you want to use, which will be dependent on the application requirements and technologies. UTF-8 is one of the commonly used character encodings defined within the Unicode Standard, which uses a single byte for each character unless it needs more, in which case it can expand up to 4 bytes. People sometimes refer to this as a variable-width encoding since the width of the character in bytes varies depending upon the character. The advantage of this character encoding is that all English (ASCII) characters will remain as single-bytes, saving data space. This is especially desirable for web content, since the underlying HTML markup will remain in single-byte ASCII. In general, UNIX platforms are optimized for UTF-8 character encoding. Concerning databases, where large amounts of application data are integral to the application, a developer may choose a UTF-8 encoding to save space if most of the data in the database does not need translation and so can remain in English (which requires only a single byte in UTF-8 encoding). Note that some databases will not support UTF-8, specifically Microsoft's SQL Server.

UTF-16

UTF-16 is another widely adopted encoding within the Unicode standard. It assigns two bytes for each character whether you need it or not. So the letter A is 00000000 01000001 or 9 zeros, a one, followed by 5 zeros and a one. If more than 2 bytes are needed for a character, four bytes can be combined, however you must adapt your software to be capable of handling this four-byte combination. Java and .Net internally process strings (text and messages) as UTF-16.

For many applications, you can actually support multiple Unicode encodings so that for example your data is stored in your database as UTF-8 but is handled within your code as UTF-16, or vice versa. There are various reasons to do this, such as software limitations (different software components supporting different Unicode encodings), storage or performance advantages, etc.. But whether that's a good idea is one of those "it depends" kinds of questions. Implementing can be tricky and clients pay us good money to solve this.

Microsoft's SQL Server is a bit of a special case, in that it supports UCS-2, which is like UTF-16 but without the 4-byte characters (only the 16-bit characters are supported).

GB 18030

There's also a special-case character set when it comes to engineering for software intended for sale in China (PRC), which is required by the Chinese Government. This character set is GB 18030, and it is actually a superset of Unicode, supporting both simplified and traditional Chinese. Similarly to UTF-16, GB 18030 character encoding allows 4 bytes per character to support characters beyond Unicode's "basic" (16-bit) range, and in practice supporting UTF-16 (or UTF-8) is considered an acceptable approach to supporting GB 18030 (the UCS-2 encoding just mentioned is not, however).

Now all of this considered, a converse question might be, what happens when you try to make your application support complex scripts that need Unicode, and the support isn't there? Depending upon your system, you get anything from garbled and meaningless gibberish where data or messages become corrupted characters or weird square boxes, or the application crashes forcing a restart. Not good.

If your application supports Unicode, you are ready to take on the world.

Origin:

Samba originated in Brazil, with the music containing a combination of Iberian, Native and African influences. The modern day Samba as we know it was developed from a Brazilian style called Choro. Samba is a big part of the world famous carnival parade, and nicely compliments the Bateria.

Music:

Samba has a lot of variations, but most variations have one thing in common: A heavy percussion presence. Samba Music is played in 2/4. The common modern day Samba has the Pandeiro as the most common percussion instrument. The Violo is the other instrument which is always present. The music can vary across all themes, and is not specific to any them or emotion.

Dance:

Samba's most common dance variation is "Samba no p" which is a solo dance. Men dance with their whole feet on the ground, whereas women usually dance using the balls of their feet. The rythm is played in 2/4 and the stepping is called as "and-a-one and-a-two". The knees are used a lot in Samba, with one knee bending at a time with the upper body straight.

Latinos NZ Popularity Scale: 5/10

Samba is slowly becoming more popular in New Zealand, although Latin Clubs tend to stick to other forms of Latin Music. However, some clubs now have Samba Nights with Samba and other Brazilian rythms and dance.

New Zealand's biggest Samba event is Jambalaya. Don't miss it next time!

The setting for the history of hoodia gordonii is southern Africa. Long before Europeans explored the continent giving Latin names to the strange plants and animals they encountered, the San peoples knew hoodia gordonii by different names; xshoba, ikhoba, xhooba, etc. The question of hoodia safety had long been answered for them. They knew that hoodia gordonii was safe to eat, though not a preferred food source. The history of hoodia gordonii as an appetite suppressant goes back to these people. When traveling or hunting they knew that hoodia gordonii would ease their hunger and thirst. There was no question about hoodia safety. It had been used traditionally to treat abdominal cramps and indigestion. It was even used to treat hypertension and diabetes. Questions of hoodia safety came later in the history of hoodia.

Credit for giving the plant a Latin name goes originally to a botanist name Francis Masson, who sailed with James Cook. He called the plant Stapelia gordonii and wrote a book about it and other species of hoodia, which he called carrion flowers, because the blooms smell like rotting meat. Later on the name Stapelia was changed to hoodia, in honor of an ardent succulent grower named Van Hood. This begins the history of hoodia gordonii, by its current name.

In the 1960s scientists at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) investigated many African plants that were used by native people for medicinal purposes. They were interested in hoodia safety and effectiveness as an appetite suppressant. The scientists identified what they believe to be the active molecule in hoodia gordonii and patented the molecule. The recent history of hoodia gordonii scientific research begins here. The CSIR licensed a British pharmaceutical company to continue investigation of hoodia safety and effectiveness. Phytopharm sublicensed the rights to Pfizer, who returned the rights after closing their branch which dealt with plants and naturally occurring substances. Pfizer stated that they believed another company would be better equipped to continue research into hoodia safety and effectiveness. The history of hoodia and Pfizer ends here, in the late 1990s, and caused some questions among a very few people about whether or not Pfizer would have returned the developmental rights, if hoodia safety and effectiveness could be proven.

Another opinion about Pfizers return of the hoodia license; often drug companies have several years to market their version of a new drug before anyone can market a generic or a similar natural health supplement. Because of Phytopharms long delay in bringing hoodia gordonii to the market (they are still involved in clinical research of hoodia safety and effectiveness), many health supplement companies have been able to obtain large supplies of the plant from farmers in South Africa. This actually begins the history of hoodia gordonii as a natural appetite suppressant. News continuously comes in. Just a few weeks ago (May 2006), Phytopharm announced that they and their new partner (Unilever) had just completed the first phase of a five phase clinical research program into hoodia safety and effectiveness. The world awaits the results.

Intros, Endings and Turnarounds for Keyboard: Essential Phrases for Swing, Latin, Jazz Waltz, and Blues Styles

Learn the intros, endings and turnarounds that all of the pros know and use! This new keyboard instruction book by John Valerio covers swing styles, ballads, Latin tunes, jazz waltzes, blues, major and minor keys, vamps and pedal tones, and more.
Customer Review: This book is fun ...
The book has well written, very musical phrases. The author suggests usage with several standards that should be in everyone's play book and it's fun to work them in with tunes you already know - in the proper keys. Take them apart, and there is something to learn in most of them. Great for browsing. The printing is good and the binding isn't troublesome on the rack. Nice experience. I would have rated it a five, but some of the pages have a tendency to work loose.
Customer Review: I love this book
I try to spend a half hour with it every night. This book will appeal to a wide range of interests. Whether you are a composer interested in theory, or a keyboardist enhancing your chops, there is something here for you. Most examples are four-measures long, but rich in musicality (kind of like what the Bach chorales are for those studying classical music.) The examples progress from simple chord progressions to more complex, and each is one is clearly explained. Nice melodies too! It is apparent that the author has spent a lot of time with each of the sub-genres (swing, ballads, blues, Latin, etc.) and has distilled his knowledge into a neat recipe book that will serve as a launching point for those wishing to further their expertise.

Remember music CD file sharing and Napster lawsuits? In the past 10 years, musicians and the music industry have suffered incredibly at the hands of pirated CD's and illegal downloads. In fact, they were losing so much money that CD sales almost dropped in half. The industry also responded by lowering the prices of music CDs. The music industry recognized if they did not lower prices that more music lovers would turn to pirated downloads rather than purchasing legal CDs. The only reason movies have not followed the same path is because movies take a lot longer to download. High speed internet access is becoming more affordable, and more and more households are now capable of downloading movies over the internet.

There exists companies such as EasyMovieAccess and NetMovieDownloads, that offer members the capability to download movies online for a small one time fee, but titles only are available after they are released on DVD. For this reason, pirated DVDs will always fly around the web as these sites strictly don't provide newly released movies from the cinema. Regardless, these sites are the solution to preventing the movie industry from suffering the same fate as its counterpart, the music industry. There are several reasons why you should consider the use of these sites if you watch movies online:

The sound and quality of the movies are generally far better than their pirated versions.

You will be guaranteed a secure download free from spyware and trojans.

You will be part of the solution, not the problem by downloading movies legally.

I have purchased and tried such sites that allow downloads for a one time fee. I can say that most titles have far exceeded my expectations in terms of quality and download speeds. A review of such sites can be found at http://www.leadingmoviesites.com Feel free to contact me in regards to your experience of such websites.
