Some Tips for a School Fashion Show

School fashion shows can be quite fun if done properly. If done the wrong way, however, it could end up being one boring affair which is only occasionally enlivened by the people laughing at a humiliated model. What you need are some tips to help you.

1) Think of a theme When putting up a school fashion show, it is always helpful if you use a theme. A theme gives a fashion show a sense of organization and people would be able to relate the fashion to the theme. There are various types of themes to choose from:

a) Season Basing your school fashion show on the season is always popular. You could design and model various outfits that correspond with the time of year. This would also give you an idea of how to decorate the venue. Basing your school fashion show on a season can help you unleash your creativity and make your brain cells work. How can you balance the freedom of creativity with the confinement of the theme? This will definitely help you improve your skills.

b) Literature Another great idea for a theme is literature. You should think about basing your school fashion show on a great piece of literature. How about basing it on the book The Great Gatsby? Ever tried creating fashion pieces for Frodo? This can be fun as you will be bringing the visions of authors to life. Basing your school fashion show on a piece of literature can also be a bit easier than other themes since most authors actually have pretty detailed descriptions of the clothes their character wear. This is especially true for fantasy novels. Cloaks, anyone?

2) Music The music sets the mood for the whole fashion show. It strikes the subconscious of the watchers and thus, determines how much attention they will be paying your school fashion show. This means, of course, that you need to choose the correct sounds to accompany your school fashion show.

You need to choose music that grabs the attention of the spectators enough to mesmerize them. However, you do not want the music to distract the spectators from the school fashion show. The best type of music to use would be instrumental. This is because instrumental music can set the mood for the show without distracting the viewers with familiar lyrics.

3) Lighting Proper lighting effects are always essential if you want to have a great school fashion show. Together with the background music, the lighting effects give the audience a general emotion to feel. How do you want them to react when they see a certain ensemble? You can make them react as you want them by simply combining light and sound.

4) Spontaneity Students hate predictability. Because of this, the best thing that your school fashion show could have is a surprise. You need to show your students something unexpected and completely new. In doing so, you will be able to grab their attentions and keep it. By being spontaneous, you will keep spectators guessing as to what will come next. This will keep their eyes on the school fashion show and off their watches and mobile phones. If you can make the audience forget about the gadgets on their pockets, then you would know that your school fashion show rocks!

Emo Stereotypes

Emo music, a rock music variation that is characterized by less guitar chaos and more melodic overtones has created subculture that is a curiously different even among its adherents. A product of the DC area in the 1990s, but with an Austin Texas and Seattle Washington influences, emo (which stands for emotional hardcore) has spawned a new wave of musical disciples mostly in the teen and lower 30s age-group and fueled by music from such entities as One Last Wish, Embrace and Fire Party.

The emo/indie culture, has gathered certain stereotypes in its wake. Remember when Tower Records was a hub for indie and altenative rock music gatherings? Emo music started off with many unsigned artists and Tower Record stores used to be the vortex of indie/emo culture and emo adherents could be easily identified there by their gothic persona.

Chalk-white faces, hair, nails and clothes completely black and Celtic jewelry was and still is the emo signature appearance. Some emo fans also dye their hair into other colors such as blue, green yellow and even red but there is always an aspect of black.

Teens who have embraced the emo subculture can be seen widely spotting fashions that can be linked to the 1950s rock era; ragged tight jeans, black t-shirts with "tattoo" designs and even black suits in some instances. Most emo adherents also spot crosses from the medieval era, mostly Celtic in addition to body piercing in odd places.

Emo teens have raised a furor among conservatives. The emo subculture, which is inherently gothic, has not been received well by a myriad of parents and political groups within the school districts and other academic communities. This gothic persona has been associated with social detachment, school violence, drugs, a record suicide rate, poor grades and even occult practices. In the movies "The Craft" and "The Blair Witch Project" the actors can be seen spotting emo/gothic garments and the lead players radiate a gothic presence.

The rock star, Kurt Cobain, who was idolized by many emo teens, committed suicide on April 5, 1994, after a troubled life and a fight with drugs. Another rock star, Marilyn Manson, portrays a gothic image in many of his public appearances and his lyrics, which have called for suicide and murder, have sparked many protests among conservatives in every field. Perhaps a curious twist is the association of emo and gothic music with vampires. Most vampire movies portray the vampires in emo/gothic clothing and emo music has been heard to lace many a vampire movie.

The emo culture is also closely associated with the punk-rock movement which is rampant in the US and Europe and which has also rapidly spread throughout the rest of the world. Fans can be seen spotting tattoos, body-piecing on the tongue, navel, and eye-brow area and even on their nostrils. Hair is particularly dyed to attract attention. Glues are applied to hold it up and in then 80s the Mohawk style was widely worn by teen punk-rockers.

Traditionally, punk-rockers have not been associated with acts of lawlessness or other criminal acts but in some European countries such as Germany and Russia, punk-rockers have been linked to supremacist groups which have ran afoul of the law after attacking or defaming members of other races.

Jazz Guitar Improvisation - The Essence Of The Jazz Music Sound

Jazz guitar improvisation is one of the main things that distinguish jazz music sounds from any other. The beauty of a jazz guitar player's improvisations is that they end up sounding perfect, with every note played with precision and distinctiveness. They add individuality to the sounds they produce when their fingers touch their jazz guitar strings, wowing everyone into listening raptly.

How Jazz Guitar Improvisation Comes About

Improvisation is a manifestation of the guitarist's instinct and takes the audience by pleasant surprise. If you listen to jazz guitar music quite a lot, then you will know that there are limitless ways to improvise. You will also realize that all your favorite players have achieved the ability to improvise with dexterity through constant experimentation. There is no such thing as following a specific way while entering a solo and for every player, it's a question of what works for them most successfully at that particular moment in time. The ear is the means by which they know how to improvise.

Jazz guitar improvisation can begin from...

  • chords
  • scales
  • melody
  • tonal centers
  • sheer freedom

It is not necessary to use all of them. You can combine two or more to produce your unique improvisation so that you have the melody in sight. When you improvise, chord-based improvisation need not have anything to do with the song you started off with. This method is not difficult. It involves using the scales and arpeggios related to the chords, converting into music. Improvisation based on scales involves the use of different notes resulting in harmony created by the scales. The fact is there is no set rule. It is the player's intuition, imagination and inner confidence in what he is doing that guides him.

This is why jazz musicians like Coltrane and Charlie Parker were considered such masters at improvisation. They did not stop at the basic technique; rather they went far beyond.

What You Need To Know To Improvise

There are certain important ideas that a jazz guitar player has to be accomplished at. These are...

  • Knowledge of arpeggios and the tension on each chord
  • Chord scales
  • The II to V progression to identify crucial areas and tonal centers
  • A keen ear to catch the notes of the melody
  • Pentatonic scales
  • Seventh chord expertise
  • Interactive playing - being responsive intuitively

How Will You Know Which Scales To Improvise From?

To know which scales to improvise from, the main thing to be aware of is the key you are in. Since rock and pop focus on the singer and song, there is no scope for improvisation, but with jazz, the keys keep changing every so often during a measure, resulting in changing the scale as well. One way to know what key you are in is with the help of the 8 scales. Remember that the II V chord progression is the most common in jazz guitar music.

To practice jazz guitar improvisation, players often learn a solo by one of the master jazz guitarists. When done thoroughly it helps them identify chord changes in the course of the sound. This gives them a base from which to experiment on their own with confidence.

With this in mind, I have compile 6 simple guitar lesson software buying guides for you to use. These simple guides will help you to find the high quality software with excellence customer service at reasonable price.

(1) Professional website and reputable coach

All these are very important to ensure that the guitar lesson software that you going to buy is developed by professional and reputable guitar coach.

(2) Excellence Customer Experience

How to verify of if the owner of the product is providing you with the excellence customer experience when shopping in the internet? What you can do is to send an email to the owner (or customer service representative) of the guitar lesson software product and see how long it takes to reply your email. The rule is, stay away from any website that take more than 24 hours to reply to your email. The professional and reputable website usually provide the visitors with the FAQ (frequent ask questions) and the online help desk that you can submit the ticket for any inquiry in addition to the email contact.

There are huge differences between bonuses and EXCLUSIVE bonuses. Exclusive bonus is the bonus that exclusively designed and developed by the owner of the guitar lesson software and offer exclusively ONLY on his or her website. (5) Reasonable Price Tag

How much should I pay? What is the reasonable priced tag? How To Put Mp4 Movies On Your PSP In 3 Easy Steps

It's very easy to put MP4 movies onto your PSP. Not only can you play games and listen to music on your PSP, you can also watch your favorite films, movies and music videos. This article shows you how you can put MP4 movies onto your PSP easily.

1. What you need:

a) Your need a Memory Stick Pro Duo formatted by your PSP (with at least 512MB). Some full length movies can take up a lot of memory space so aim to get as much memory as you can afford.

b) Computer or Laptop (An average pc or laptop will do)

c) USB cable, preferably USB 2.0

d) Some MP4 movies or films to put on your PSP device (You can get these from your own DVD collection or you can download from the internet. There are many movie download sites online.)

2. Getting started:

Connect your computer to your PSP using the USB cable and press the 'X' on your PSP. Your computer will recognise the new connection and assign it a new removable drive. If this is the first time you're connecting your pc to your PSP your pc may first install some new drivers to support the connection.

3. Prepare your movies

If you already have the movies on your pc, put them in one folder where you can easily find them. If you don't already have the Mp4 movies you can download them from the internet. Make sure they are all in MP4 format. There are a number of mp4 movie converters that you can find online. Some are free. Go to any search engine and do a search for mp4 movie converters.

4. Copy the movies and put them on your PSP.

On your computer, browse to the removable USB drive corresponding to your PSP and navigate to the PSP folder. Create a folder called 'MP_ROOT' and inside that folder create another folder and name it '100MNV01'. This is the folder where you'll put your mp4 movie files. Now copy the movie files from your computer to the '100MN01' folder on your PSP. The mp4 movie files should be named in the format 'M4V00000.MP4' where 00000 can be any number. For example, M4V00001.MP4 or M4V00012.MP4 are fine but M4VJAMESBOND12.MP4 and MyBestMovie.MP4 are not.

5. Watch the Movies on your PSP

First disconnect your PSP from your computer. Then on your PSP navigate to your 100MNV01 folder and select it to display all the movies that you have copied to your PSP. You can now select and watch any mp4 movie you want on your PSP.

Don't Let Playing Piano In Front Of An Audience Intimidate You

I remember very well the first time I ever played piano in front of what seemed like a large audience. In reality, it was probably a fairly small audience, but I was nervous regardless, as I was just a young kid. My time on stage that day didn't really last very long, but it seemed like an eternity. I wasn't sure if I would even be able to complete my so-called performance. I wasn't sure exactly why I was nervous, because I knew I had practiced and was perfectly capable of playing the piano music that I had planned on playing.

After the performance I commented to my mother about how nervous I had been during the performance and I told her I didn't know why. Of course she told me I played the piano fine and that I didn't appear to be nervous. I knew otherwise. I realized later that my problem was that I felt self-conscious the whole time I was in front of that audience. I was concerned about what I looked like up there, what the music sounded like to the audience, what the audience and even my mom was thinking about my piano playing, and probably any other number of things that raced through my mind while I was playing piano on stage. I simply couldn't relax and enjoy the time.

How should I go about correcting this problem of being self-concious while playing the piano? For an overwhelming majority of people, performing in public in front of an audience can be a very frightening experience, but it shouldn't be. The idea is to keep playing, and eventually your confidence will grow and you won't have that fear when you perform. Some people just feel more confident playing the piano in front of an audience than other people do, and that's fine. There is nothing wrong with being nervous at all.

I think one of the best ways to overcome this is to just start playing piano in front of small audiences, even if only one or two people, and gradually work your way up to playing the piano in front of larger crowds. If you can play piano in front of just one person, then you can play piano for any large number of people too! You just have to realize that a large crowd is simply a group of smaller crowds and individuals. Rather than beginning your piano performing career in front of large crowds, where it's only natural to be a bit nervous, you should start by playing in front of small groups and you won't have to experience that fear nearly as much, and your confidence will grow without you hardly even noticing it. That confidence will show through when you start playing piano in larger venues for bigger audiences.

Chicken Noodle Soup Dance

Ever so often a cultural force grabs America by the neck and does not let go. The chicken noodle soup dance and song could be the next silent assassin in the night, waiting to take the spot. As its popularity grows, chicken noodle soup could become the next big thing on Americas pop culture landscape.

You may ask what the chicken noodle soup dance is ? The chicken noodle soup dance originated in Harlem, New York and started out as a street dance done by young urbanites. An accompanying song was released and this birthed the dance craze for 2006. The song by Webstar and Young B has placed more attention on the dance as it catchy lyrics and simplified chorus has infected the radio airwaves of America.

The chicken noodle soup dance can be done in many different ways as each dancer adds their own personal flair to it. The basic steps in the dance begin with dancers following the initial lyrics from the accompanying song. Let it rain and clear it out When this is said dancers bring their hands down like the rain is falling, then they clear out whoever is beside them by doing a sweeping action with their hands. This is done three times before Webstar sings Chicken noodle soup. At this point the chicken noodle soup dance begins. This is the side to side movements of the legs followed by the flailing of the arms to match the corresponding feet movement. As mentioned before, personal style is incorporated a lot into the dance. You have people who spin, jump and create sheer havoc with this dance.

The chicken noodle soup however has it detractors. There are many people in the black community who feel that the chicken noodle soup dance is nothing more than the 2006 version of shucking and jiving. They feel as if this dance is a step backward.

The Chicken noodle soup might possibly infiltrate American popular for 2007. The suburbs has slowly caught on and as the song gets bigger and bigger, it can be guaranteed that soccer moms and wall street executives will be chicken noodle souping at their various parties and social events.

Movie Review - The Incredible Hulk

Marvel Studios has released their second film of 2008, and while not as highly anticipated as Iron Man, there is a lot of buzz surround The Incredible Hulk.

Marvel has decided to reboot the Hulk franchise, ignoring Ang Lee's Hulk movie which was not well received at all. This time around, Louis Leterrier (The Transporter 1 and 2) is at the helm, and there is much more action as a result.

This film is very much an homage to the Bill Bixby/Lou Ferigno TV series from the 1980s. Many images in the film are straight out of the show, as well as the Hulk's origin. Even the theme music makes an appearance. But there are also a lot of comic book references as well, including the Mr. Green/Mr. Blue exchange from Bruce Jones' "Return of the Monster" storyline, and cameos by some familiar comic characters.

Banner is in hiding after his first Hulk-out, where he nearly killed his girlfriend, Betty, and her father, General Thunderbolt Ross. But he's slipped up, and now the General is closing in, which gives the movie a Fugitive-type feel. To help hunt Banner down, General Ross assembles a team of specialists, including Emil Blonksy, a life-long soldier who loves a challenge. After Blonsky sees the Hulk first hand, he wants to do whatever it takes to bring him down, including being injected with the Super Soldier Serum (hinting at the upcoming Captain America film). This gives him enhanced strength and speed, but it's not enough for Blonsky. So he's infused with some of Banner's blood and becomes the Abomination, and monster bigger and badder than the Hulk. This sets up the film's final confrontation between the two monsters.

All of the roles from the first film have been recast, with Edward Norton playing Dr. Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and William Hurt as General Thunderbolt Ross. Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs) plays the Emil Blonsky/The Abomination. Marvel has done it again with the casting, and everyone plays their roles perfectly. Norton really shines as Banner, and it's great that he gets a chance to strut his stuff in an action/comic book movie.

The Hulk looks like he's supposed to this time - Nine feet tall, green and mean. The film makers were able to capture more emotion in this Hulk which should make him more acceptable as a CGI character. The CGI Hulk didn't bother me at all, but the Abomination was a bit much. He really looks nothing like his comic book counterpart, and more like a mini-Godzilla crossed with something out of a horror movie.

The best parts of the film are when Banner is on the run. That's not to say that the Hulk scenes were bad - most of them weren't - but one of the things that made the Hulk TV show work well was the Fugitive aspect of it, and it works well here, too.

The weakest part of the movie is the big Hulk/Abomination battle. Maybe it was the CGI, maybe it was that seeing two monsters beat the tar out of each other can only go so far, but it just didn't work for me. The final scene of the movie also seemed forced and out of place. I think that it would have worked better a little earlier than where it showed up. Despite that, it's a great scene for the fans.

Since I'm a movie score nut, I've got to deduct points again for the music in the film. Much like Iron Man, the music has no themes for any of the characters, nothing that you walk away from the film humming, (except a few bars from the Hulk TV show). It would be nice to see a recognizable name composing music for future Marvel films, because so far, they've been pretty lame.

Overall, The Incredible Hulk is far superior to the Ang Lee Hulk movie. It's faster paced, more engaging, and just plain fun. Fans of the TV show will like it, fans of the comic books will like it, and even casual fans should enjoy it.

I'm giving the Incredible Hulk a B rating.

Thanks for reading.

Girls on Bass

At last female bass players are emerging! As a male bass player and music teacher I'd like to present some of my observations regarding the emergence of female bass players over the past 32 years. (That's how long I've been teaching music).

In 1976 there was hardly a female bass player in sight. This applied across the board, in any music genre. Things were changing, however, in all walks of life. Emancipation of both males and females was a priority in many minds. Especially art forms were undergoing the (r)evolution instigated in a huge way in the 1960s, and music was a driving voice.

The bass guitar had only been commercially available for about twenty years - just one generation. It is a lot less cumbersome than the double bass, and apparently more suited to petite hands. The double bass, however, after being set up correctly, is only slightly more physically demanding. Both instruments fulfill the same function in almost all musics: to provide the centre of rhythm and pitch.

My main comparative observation - so far - has been that females intuitively have a superior sense of both rhythm and pitch (sorry guys). That's a killer combination, because the result is usually melodic bass playing (I'm in heaven!).

In my teaching, I've gone from zero female bass students to about 15%, which roughly equates to the real world of music performance and recording. I would love to see this percentage increase dramatically - because I love bass and I know what girls on bass can do.

Besides being an innovative and highly respected music educator, George Urbaszek plays double bass, guitar, bass guitar and bassitar. He has over 3000 performances and 120 recording sessions to his credit and has toured Australia, Central Europe, Canada, USA and the Pacific Islands.

George has performed with artists ranging from Rolf Harris through to Judith Durham, Beccy Cole, Marina Prior, George Washingmachine, Thelma Housten and the New York production of Porgy and Bess. His former students include Brendan Clarke (winner of the Australian National Jazz Award), Kim Khahn (Robbie Williams, Mel C, Natalie Imbruglia) and Rory Quirk (John Butler Trio).

After lecturing for thirteen years in the Jazz Department of the Australian National University, George is now residing near Byron Bay, Australia, where he works from home teaching students from all over the world using an innovative approach of step-by-step online bass lessons. These lessons cost as little as US $3.46 each and are available at http://www.creativebasslessons.com
